Balearic islands - face masks??

Heading to Majorca tomorrow for two weeks, planning on using public transport to explore Palma and some of the island.

Are masks still a thing there? I have bee googling and found info in Spanish which says they are still required - but no date on the webpage. Other sources in English appear to say healthcare settings only.

Anyone been recently to Majorca, Menorca or Ibiza and can advise?

To add - we were on Menorca last year, long after even Scotland had ditched the masks, and they were still required on buses.

I thought I’d read the restrictions were eased a couple of months back but we were in Mallorca in October and they were very strict about masks on the buses. Even the wooden train to Soller with windows that open wide had the same rule.

I’d have one in your bag just in case you come across anywhere that still requires them (possibly medical centres).

I'd take some, I was in the Canaries in Feb and they were required on buses.

GulesMeansRed · 24/06/2023 15:46

OK so it seems that on the Gov.uk site it says face masks in healthcare settings only. I will not be wearing a mask unless I am legally obliged to do so, and as I'm not intending going into a care home or hospital we don't need to pack any. (That's if we have any left)

The requirement for face masks ended at the end of February this year.

All over Spain you still have to wear facemasks if you enter a medical place , pharmacy, doctors etc. But nowhere else

Maddy70 · 24/06/2023 15:49

Haven't been needed on public transport for ages. Only pharmacys and doctors now

Yes that's what I saw in English sites but when I clicked on the official Balearic Islands government site it still says obligatory on public transport!

I thought i'd get more accurate info relying on something which hadn't been translated but obviously not.

Perhaps you should take some in case you need to go to a pharmacy

IrritableVowel · 24/06/2023 16:03

We are in Majorca now. There are no masks anywhere. We got public transport into Palma today, didn't see anyone with one.

We had to wear them last summer in pharmacies, at the docs and in hospital. Let's just say that the holiday didn't go to plan.

If you have a few paper ones still at home I'd throw them in the suitcase. It was challenging trying to buy them BEFORE going into a pharmacy.

I was in the canaries last week and they weren't required anywhere (including buses)

StrugglingWeight · 24/06/2023 17:45

We went to memorca and didn't see a single mask. Went into a pharmacy without one as well. Didn't catch public transport but no evidence of people at bus stops with masks

If you are worried just pack one? You don't have to use it

GulesMeansRed · 24/06/2023 17:46

I'm not worried!! I just didn't want to risk a fine for being in a bus without one. And as I won't be fined, I won't be taking any masks.

Didn’t see anyone in a face mask in the pharmacy in Seville in April , not even the staff (I went in twice). But there may different rules for the islands.

Lightningrain · 25/06/2023 13:58

I’d take some just in case you end up needing to see a doctor or pharmacist. I know a few people that have been away recently and ended up needing to see a doctor - ear infections, bronchitis and kidney stones! The last thing you’ll want to be doing is traipsing round looking for some to buy if you need to see a doctor.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 25/06/2023 15:41

Just back from Ibiza and didnt see anyone wearing masks.

dadan · 25/06/2023 15:48

Masks are only required in pharmacies (pretty relaxed) and doctors / hospitals.

chiveo · 25/06/2023 16:04

Take them in case, you’d rather have them and not need them

Haha I'm superstitious I would be worried that by being adamant you're not taking one because you won't need anything medical you're inviting bad luck and will break an ankle or get the runs or something Grin
