I am very excited that next weekend DP and I will be having our first childfree weekend away and are off to Marrakech.

Can anyone recommend any restaurants/ places to visit that shouldnt be missed??!! Or anywhere I should avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Don't cut the top off your finger with a blender the day before you go, coz it might get infected there (from the guess what I did school of thought LOL )

Enjoy yurself, laugh at the fake watches that go from £150 to $1 in under a minute, don't go near blokes with goats (he chucked a kid at us then billed us $20 to take our photos with our own camera), and just take it for what it is.

ooh I've got goose bumps at the thought of chopping finger in the blender.. note to self, do not cook until you get back in case you chop your finger off.

Sounds like good advice re "take it for what it is" from what I have read on t'internet!b Bit worried about the fake watches though, thought it was more leather slippers and lanterns I'd be bargaining for?!!

Take warm clothes and nightwear - surprisingly cold, brr.

When visiting the souk etc it is better to be covered wrist to ankle otherwise you can come in for a lot of attention which is wearing after a while. T shirts and shorts to be avoided as it is akin to going out in your underwear! I was about 12 when we first holidayed there and my mother had to rapidly cover me up!

This is a useful restaurant guide

Thanks Heated, was wondering re clothes as I know its not ultra strict like some muslim countries but wasn't sure how much to cover up.. so I'd be ok in jeans and long sleeve tops? Riad has pashminas for use as well so may get some use out of those!

Will check out the guide, thanks

And noted re beer Peachy, DP will be pleased with that one!

Marrakech is amazing! The souk is fantastic, especially the metalworking bits. If you have a good guide, I found the food and spice market also fascinating (but of course, they often don't especially want to take you there as you won't be buying stuff).

I would second what others say about dressing modestly - saves a lot of hassle.

If you can, go to the Jardin Majorelle (www.jardinmajorelle.com/en/) just outside town, which is one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever been to.

Have a fabulous time!
