Eating out in Mallorca

boymum1989 · 20/06/2023 08:49

Looking at holidays in Mallorca and thinking all-inclusive for ease with kids, but still weighing up options.

Haven’t been there for 20 years (!!) and would love some idea of what to expect for prices for eating out – nothing fancy, just average prices for a pizza, paella, beer, cocktail etc.

Thanks in advance!

Went to Palma recently and I found it was very similar prise wise to eating out back home.

BridportSpectacular · 20/06/2023 17:21

We were in Palma and Port Soller, Port soller was London Prices. We did find a few cafes that were reasonable and some set menus at lunchtime that were very good. But not on the main tourist drags.

Loved it.

We found it more expensive than we expected. Similar prices to home. Around 100€ for four of us to have one course each plus a drink (to be fair sometimes a mocktail for kids and wine for us).

Snowflake760 · 20/06/2023 20:42

Just come back from Port de Soller. Main courses were approx 16 EUR (anything from Caesar Salad or wrap to burger and a few fries or pizza ) , glass of wine 5 EUR.

The more touristy areas Alcudia, Puerto Pollensa etc will be much the same as here -£10/12 a main course.

All inclusive is not as much fun as heading out to find a place to eat in my opinion- your evening meal is over pretty quickly which may work if there's small children

We were just discussing this! We go regularly. The more tourist areas are obviously more expensive, especially the ports like soller andratx and portals. We spent about 80EU a meal last year which with the poor exchange rate really stung! But then my parents have just been and had good meals for 45-60EU for the two of them with three courses and nice wine. Depending on where you're going I'd be happy to pass on recommendations ☺️

Thank you! Where do you/they usually go? Previously went a few times to Puerto Pollenca a few times as a teen but now looking around Cal’an Bosch. Would love to stay in Soller in the future but tied to easyJet holidays this time as we have a voucher that needs using.

Cala dor and eat out overlooking the harbour.

I actively avoid any hotels that offer all inclusive though. Shudders.

Scottishlanza · 20/06/2023 23:06

@boymum1989 isnt Cala n’bosch menorca not Majorca?

Why?

@Scottishlanza woops yes you’re right. Looking at both Cala’n Bosch and Cala D’Or

@boymum1989 both lovely resorts to be fair. As regular visitors to Majorca and Spain in general I find Majorca a little more expensive than some other places but not excessively so. Everywhere can be made more or less expensive by choosing lower end or upper end restaurants, beers/soft drinks rather than cocktails, pasta/pizza rather than steaks. We tend to mix it up a bit so if we’ve had steaks and expensive wine one night we might have pizza and a beer the next. When my kids were little I would order one pizza, a salad and some chips, the kids would have a quarter each with a few chips and salad and I’d have half a pizza with salad. Hubby would have his own! Menu del dia are also good value especially at lunchtime. Basically you can tailor your budget to suit you.

boymum1989 · 21/06/2023 08:09

@Scottishlanza thanks, that’s my thinking too. We’re only going for 4 nights so will likely do a couple of dinners out.

Why

Tend to find they attract a higher ratio of less well behaved guests.

hauntedvagina · 21/06/2023 14:53

@Soapyspuds I think you're going to the wrong hotels

I've never found that to be true of any I've booked.

I've never had a single beery lout type on any I've ever been to if that's what you're insinuating.

Maybe in places like Benidorm perhaps like on the TV show, is that what you think all AI resorts are like ?

Maddy70 · 21/06/2023 16:41

Much cheaper than the UK. Particularly if you get a menu del dia usually around €15 fir three courses and includes a drink.
