Best time to book

Hi all,

Having spent a small fortune on our holiday this year that we have booked relatively late due to work schedules I would like to ask when is the cheapest time to book?

We will have a lot more flexibility next year so just wondering when the best deals are on. Should I book as soon as dates are released, or is January a good time or wait till the last minute?

We usually do an AI beach holiday in the summer hols. Flexible on location.

I normally book as early as possible, obviously it depends where you want to go but I tend to book 11 months in advance, then it gives me a chance to pay it off. However I booked a holiday in January to go in July and when I checked it again recently it's gone up by over £2,000! It's worth looking in September/October for the following year or early January :)

Either very early or very late is the perceived wisdom.

@SnowfallSnowball £2000! That's huge. I'm too scared to look up this year's holiday in case it's gone down.

I think I'll look September time for next year then.

Thanks both.

@WhyDoesItAlways I know it's crazy, although I did feel rather smug when I saw that and thought it pays to book earlier!

Ha you're better than me, I am far too curious! Where are you thinking of going? I know you said flexible but do you have a maximum flight time for example?

WhyDoesItAlways · 06/06/2023 11:09

I'm really flexible. We're doing Mexico this year which is a 9 hour flight. 9-11 hours is probably the max we could do as we have a 6 year old.

I think next year we may stay more local and look for a really nice European resort. I saw a thread pop up earlier with loads of good recommendations which I think I'll bookmark.
