Hello!
We are going on our first family holiday to France in a few weeks.

We're hiring a car over there and I know we have to take a credit car in the drivers name.

Does anyone know how much money available we need to have on the credit card?

The last time I hired a car in France was about ten years ago and at that time they put a hold on 100 euros on the credit card. No idea if it's the same amount these days. Probably closer to 200?

Oh great, thank you. I have about £1,000 available but don't want to be refused the car if that isn't enough!

Wow, that seems crazy.
Can I ask which company you have gone through?

Renta car in Brittany! We were surprised I have to say. I’d give them a call and ask - we clearly had not read the small print 😀

I'm a just checked the small print and they want £2,000 available which will be refunded at the end of the hire. Seems crazy on a £288 weeks rental but I guess they need to cover themselves!

We recently went our small print said £1500 (hertz) but they only blocked off £750 in the end no idea why the difference!

Well. Either prices have drastically increased in ten years or we got a really good deal at 100 euros! Blimey.
