We have booked a holiday in costa Blanca for a week, but added a few days on alicante at the beginning as a city break in july.

Any recommendations about what to do or see or where to go for food etc

First holiday with no kids!

Alicante is my hometown! it is a wonderful site. I don't know when you go, but 'Hogueras', the biggest festivities of the year, start around the 18th and end on the 24th. It's worth seeing the streets decorated with giant figures to burn on the last night. The castle of Santa Bárbara is also something you should not miss. For the rest, apart from good food, good prices and good beaches, there is not much else to do but rest and get a nice tan 😂

Oh sorry I just realized you go on July, you won't be able to be for Hogueras

Have you booked your flights ?
I'd recommend flying to Valencia for the city break, much more interesting than Alicante
