HELP!

Just been on the National Rail Enquiries website to try and find my mum a good deal on a train from Glasgow to Peterborough, but its so difficult to work!!! don't know if i'm just being thick!!

Anyone any better ideas for booking the cheapest train tickets, was hoping for sometime in April??

Would rather she came by train, as the airports are all a 2 hr drive from us and i'm pregnant with twins, so don't really fancy the treck!!

TIA

thetrainline is quite easy for booking tickets.

Sometimes it is cheaper booking 2 singles rather than a return ticket - also if you can travel outside peak times it makes it cheaper.

On the moneysavingexpert site it says that it sometimes works out cheaper to book the tickets in "legs" - for example Glasgow to Newcastle then Newcastle to Peterboro'. It does complicate things though, and I have never seen it work out any cheaper.

If you can book 12 weeks in advance as soon as the tickets are released it is also cheaper.

Would she consider getting the bus - the megabus goes from Glasgow - not sure if they go to Peterbrough mind yo - and their website is down at the moment.

Just checked - for example 11th to 14th April - 2 singles £26 each - is that cheaper than you found?

16th - 20th total price £43 - again 2 singles.

Also - if she is over 60 and planning to visit you regularly on the train it might be worth getting a senior rail card - costs £26 but saves you 1/3 on all standard fares

Thanks for the info, she is wishing her year away, is 59 , 60 in Oct.

If she books at the station she can get 2 singles for 15 quid, so that seems to be the best deal.

Thanks so much
