Bloody expensive holidays

Booking flights to Almeria with Jet2. 400 quid each in August! Think this will be out last holiday abroad for a while! Anyone else noticed prices for holidays gone bananas?
I understand why but this is one luxury we will be cutting back on!

Travel businesses taking advantage of remaining pent-up demand to recover some of the stupendous losses they suffered during the pandemic. Even the biggest players were hanging on by a thread by the time borders started to open.

Hardly surprising.

I think part of the reason (for package holidays) is that apparently the companies have changed their business models for room bookings so they no longer have a set amount to sell. I have to confess to not understanding the details but Martin Lewis was talking about it on the radio. That’s why you don’t get so many cheap last minute deals where they have to fill a
room. Would be good to know if that’s right from someone in the industry!

@Leftbutcameback Lots of big Tour Operators used to commit to whole hotels for whole seasons, paying for every room every week. Rooms they didn't sell they may knock down in price last minute to cut their losses.

In 2020 I have no doubt that some hoteliers held them to those commitments, despite nobody being able to travel and package holidays being refunded or rolled over.

Stands to reason that they're more cautious now and will take either smaller commitments, or allocations of rooms with release dates at which point the hotel takes back what's unsold to sell directly or through other parties, or they renegotiate.

Ah Rayn22 glad I am not the only one.

We don't usually leave this so late, but my parents have had health issues and DH has been worried about his job, and we just couldn't commit mentally as well as financially to a summer holiday.

So, yes, it would have been cheaper if we had booked in September 2022, but he has only just been renewed, and we are where we are...

It may be camping in our back garden though!
