Renewing passport in married name

My passport is due for renewal and I need to update it to my married name. The gov website says I need to send my marriage certificate with it - does it need to be the original or can I send a copy?

I made a few copies when I got married for banks etc, but ended up having to take my original one in anyway.

Would I just need to send my original recorded delivery and they'd return it with the new passport? Does it make a difference if my driving licence is in my married name (the name I want to update the passport to)?

Sorry, I can't help regarding whether its the original or a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

I'm confused why your drivers license name would have anything to do with it though? You don't send that off also, so why would it have any baring on the passport? I thought old passport and marriage certificate (original or cert copy) was all you needed sent in?

It needs to be the original certificate.

Sorry, I just mentioned that as I know that using the government gateway website, you could use your details/photo from one ID for the other... although thinking of it, that may have been for the driving licence with the photo coming from the passport. There was some link between photo ID documents anyway!

It needs to be an official copy or the original. You can order copies, I think they're only about £10

It needs to be the original but we ordered some official copies for this reason as I don’t want to send the actual handwritten one in case it gets lost. Id send recorded delivery though.

You can renew a driving licence using the photo from your passport but not vice versa.
