Most Reasonable Caribbean Island?

5 replies

Bahasa · 27/02/2023 10:48

Obviously going to cross off places like Anguilla and St Barths, and Barbados (overpriced). What is the most reasonable Caribbean island?
Not thinking Mexico or Dominican Republic.

We want somewhere we can self cater (dp keeps kosher).

Direct flights keep costs down. If you need a second flight it’s more expensive. Anywhere used by large holiday companies is cheaper. Their clients don’t have the money for the more exclusive islands! Smaller out of way ones are lovely though. We have never self catered but the BVIs are wonderful, the Grenadines and BequIa! But it costs to get there! Local shopping and cheaper prices is always available if you self cater. Friends do
it.

We are happy enough to get a ferry to different islands too.. do that a lot in Greece and in Asia. Was going to try and avoid the BVIs as I have a cousin who lives there that I would rather not have to see!

Going to check out beckway and the grenadines

@Bahasa
BVIs are lovely but I see your point! Actually we did self cater. I forgot. On Virgin Gorda. You have to remember that the Caribbean attracts the well off from USA, uk and Europe. Therefore the trick is finding somewhere with few hotels. We actually hired a yacht one year with its owners sailing it. BVIs have out of the way islands.

When you say most reasonable are you talking from a cost perspective? I've been to 3 Caribbean islands and Barbados is actually one of the cheaper ones alongside Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica...
