Volunteer Abroad for 18 yr olds?

Not sure where best to post this! Would really appreciate any ideas or recommendations from anyone whose older teens had a good volunteer abroad experience.

We’ve looked online for companies and ideas, but it’s a nightmare out there trying to find a genuine 4 or 6 week volunteer experience abroad. Mostly it’s a mish mash of middle men, massive online platforms, one man on a laptop in his house, income earner etc. This is making it impossible to find something reliable.

Ideally looking for an organisation that sorts everything from airport transfers to accommodation and doing some interesting volunteering. My DN ‘volunteered’ abroad with one organisation but that turned out to be more a club 18-30 three week holiday with half a day volunteering at a local school kind of thing. I’m hoping for something more like what Raleigh International was before it went bust last year.

What skills does your DC have that they want to volunteer with? That can help point them/you in a useful direction. Do they have a TEFL certificate for example, or something else that can be used?

Also, does your DC actually want to volunteer?

Or are you trying to make it more appealing/sound better by being abroad? if they're interested in volunteering what about doing it in the U.K. and then going on a fun holiday? Far, far more options that way.

Many thanks for the suggestions. Yes, DC very much wants to volunteer but has not travelled solo yet. Volunteering abroad seems a good idea, but no hard ‘skills’ as such other. Already volunteers here in the UK with a youth climate change Org. A bit shy so something alongside other young volunteers would be ideal. I’ll have a look at workaway thanks.
