Fuerteventura

I am considering booking Fuerteventura for April/May this year but am seeing some mixed reviews. On another thread someone mentions that it is "souless and tacky" - is this overall the case, or just in Corralejo?

We normally hire a car on holiday and we would like to explore the island. The beaches look stunning.

Any thoughts on Fuerteventura please? Would just be DH and I, half board, 10-14 nights, looking to relax and chill but with a few days out here and there.

I love Fuertaventura and have been several times. I like mostly a beach /walking holiday.
Flag beach is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen.
It's a small island, we hired a car last time and it doesn't take long to see it all.
I've stayed in Caleta and Corralejo. Prefer Corralejo for it's proximity to the fab beach.
It's a mixed resort, lots of nice restaurants but not especially pretty. Bars with live music if that's your thing.
In April it won't be scorching hot. In fact it's very windy all year round and even in July the wind certainly takes the heat off.
I prefer Lanzarote myself. More dramatic scenery and more to see and where I'll be next week.

Loved it!! It's my favourite of the Canary Islands and when I went (admittedly this was nearly 10 years ago) I still remember it as one of the best holidays. Super for an AI beach/pool holiday.
