Interesting or unique things to do in England?!

Hello! In my pre-child life I loved going on holiday. However, I currently have a toddler and after two disastrous trips abroad, I'm not willing to travel with her again until she's a bit older.

My husband and I can go away for a night to somewhere in the UK, and I'd like to do something interesting or different, something totally different from my everyday life. We like museums, nature, culture, anything really! Any recommendations? We're in South London and happy to travel a few hours.

I don’t know how different it is but I love the Peak District- Dovedale, Eyam, Tissington trail, heights of Abraham, chatsworth.

For one night what about Port Lymphe Safari Park?

So you live in South London and want to go somewhere for one night with a toddler?

Driving or train? I'd probably stick to Kent/Surrey/Sussex to keep travel time down.

Seaside? Brighton?

You mean go away without the toddler?

Cotswolds!

I was about to mention the Peak District. You can take a boat ride through some of the caverns

Agree with PP Sussex would be an easy night away for you, you could visit Arundel Castle, Petworth House, do a nice walk, couple of nice meals etc.

Painswick near Stroud - the churchyard of yew trees, the incredible Rococco Garden, nice pub with rooms that sells its own UK champenoise wine. Lots of NT places nearby and gorgeous walks on the doorstep.

Oh, without the toddler?

Maybe Oxford. Can easily spend half a day in the Ashmolean museum and then the Pitt Rivers. Visit a college. Lots of wandering around searching out quaint routes, places to eat, river walks.

Arundel in Sussex is lovely (arrive by train for the best view). Can actually do it in a day trip from London but the castle and gardens takes most of the day, so an overnight would be good. I've never had time for a walk along the river. Later in the year would be a better time to visit the gardens.

Probably a bit obvious. But to keep travel time down what about the javelin down to the Kent Coast? We love Whitstable. Drinks in the Neptune right on the shingle beach. Maybe oysters or fresh local sea food in the Oyster House. Or one of loads of great eating places. Walks along the coast. Or train to Margate to the Turner Gallery.

Have a lovely break.

Margate, stay at The Sands, go to Dreamland, book cocktails and dinner. Go to the Turner.

Hour and a half by train to Portsmouth Harbour or less if driving , 20 minutes on the cat to the Isle of Wight or 40 minutes on the car ferry (you can do this as a foot passenger). Feels like you are properly away. Fantastic beach.
I’d stay at the Royal in Ventnor or Alberts cottage by Osbourne House in Cowes. Or somewhere in Seaview if you Airbnb it.

The UK is full of interesting stuff to do personally we feel North Wales has loads to offer from Tranquility to action adventure

York fits your bill. Nice town to walk around, lovely cathedral, walk around the walls, and Castle Howard is nearby.

I agree, Whistable is a nice place to visit. Browse around the shops, walk along the coast, etc. if you want to stop en route, then Leeds castle is only a short drive of the motorway, which is a lovely castle to visit.

What about fun accomodation?
Train carriage or yurt type things?
