NYC hotel recommendations

Looking for a nice 4/5* hotel Easter hols for me and DH

I've stayed at the Wyndham New Yorker as it was part of a package and it wasn't great! Also had a day room at the Roosevelt which was equally shady! Both very dated and shabby. But they were part of a package tour and we only had a very short time their pre and lost cruise.

This time it's for a holiday. Clean, modern, nice linens, spacious and a little luxury. Also cheap!

Would prefer midtown but not averse to other more offbeat suggestions. Not keen on Times Square.

Parker (what used to be Le Meriden) was lovely when we went to the burger joint and and also recommended the Affina 50 Hotel.

The Royalton looks good too.

I'm unfortunately I'm beyond the I'll only be in there for sleeping so it doesn't matter. I do like a nice hotel!

Extra points if it has a free lounge access!

I came to say the Novotel on Times Square then saw you weren't keen on that location.

QueenMabs · 16/01/2023 22:15

I shall check it out! @RicciardoPerez what is good about it?

It's essentially what you're looking for :) clean, modern, spacious! I loved it! Loved being up on the 32nd floor too! (First time there lol!)

Staff were friendly, it was across the road from Ellen Stardust diner and just a good location for us. We stayed for 4 nights before embarking on a cruise, so we needed to consider that for location too.

Rooms were very clean, beds super comfy, very good soundproofing - couldn't hear people coming and going.

Although a quick google suggests it's now M social hotel Times Square 🤨

We are staying at The Wallace next month in the upper west side . We got a really good deal booking direct with them . We have stayed around Time Square before but I’m not sure I’d recommend. It was fine but we wanted something more personal this time .

Look at The Concorde Hotel on East 55th, just near Bloomingdales. Has lovely views from most rooms, and fabulous staff.
The Fitzpatrick Grand Central is nice too, less modern and no views.

Marriot courtyard in 53 and 3rd—great location and large rooms

We've stayed at the Ritz Carlton near Battery Park. Fantastic views of the Statue of Liberty. Our room had a telescope.

Not cheap, but the Crosby Street Hotel and the Greenwich Hotel are lovely (downtown), the Whitby on 55th Street is great if you want to be more central.

Wiennetta · 17/01/2023 09:20

The Bowery was really lovely. The bar downstairs was great. We had amazing views from the room over the city.

We stayed at the Sofitel last time. Lovely room, great staff and oh, the view! We had a view of the Chrysler buildings and the Empire State.

The Barclay Intercontinental (E48th & Lexington) is classy with marvellous service, and an excellent club lounge. Or if you're willing to pay more, Essex House opposite Central Park South is a fabulous location, and surprisingly quiet.

The aforementioned Novotel Times Square (now a M Social) was dreadful and only got away with it because of the Times Square view from some rooms. Still best to be avoided.

I totally get it - when it comes to hotels, we all want something that's clean, modern, and comfortable, especially when we're on holiday! If you're looking for a 4/5* hotel in midtown that's a little more luxurious, the Parker and Affina 50 Hotel are both great options.
If you're open to offbeat suggestions, check out Hotel Integra in Banjaluka. They have a unique cooking technique called sous vide that you might find interesting.
