Budget for New York....

When I turn 60and DD turns 21 I would love to take her to New York to celebrate.
This will be in 7 years time so I have a while to save up.

The last time I went to NY was 2004 so that I’m sure things have changed a lot.

I think I would like us to stay 4 nights in a central hotel, flights from a London airport.

Any ball park figures if I was choosing to do this soon?

Allow £300-£500 per night for a decent hotel in a good location. Flights range between £500 and £900 depending on time of year and when you book (the BA sale is always good).

You do need to budget heavily for meals etc whist there. Adding tax and service on everything makes it so expensive. I am used to London prices and worked in NYC for several months pre kids so definitely used to the uplift but even I was amazed at just how expensive everything was this summer. Breakfast for three people in a regular diner was $65 for a “main”, coffee and juice each by the time you’d added in tax and service.

At the moment NY is stupid expensive for lots of reasons, but including that the pound is so weak against the dollar.

I would budget about £5k, hotels and flights will be what pp says, and you'll want to do lots while you're there....

That said, if you've got 7 years to save, £60 a month will do the job nicely.
