We are due to fly from Manchester next Tue, has anyone been recently that can say how bad potential queues are at security etc. We are travelling from Scotland too and planning what time to leave etc.

I've flown from there twice in the last 4/5 weeks, fine both times. I might just get there about 30 mins before you usually would to be sure.

CombatBarbie · 04/10/2022 15:29

Fabulous, thank you!

I flew to and from there approx a week ago and it was fine both ways. lunchtime flight out and early evening arrival

maddy68 · 04/10/2022 15:45

It's calmed down now. But Manchester is horrible compared to other airports normally. The security staff are rude and shout at everyone. Which makes people dither and slow down. So allow 30 mins extra

Yesthatismychildsigh · 04/10/2022 15:50

I second what Maddy said.

Hoppinggreen · 04/10/2022 15:50

We flew from there in July, it was fine

Bunnyannesummers · 04/10/2022 15:54

Flew from there on Friday. We got there three hours before and had a comfortable amount of time. You could probably do 2 and a half and be fine.

agree about security. They’re horrid, and if you bag gets pulled for additional searching that really adds on time because they’re slow, unhelpful and downright mean!

We got an email about roadworks and struggling to get into the airport but I didn’t have that experience

willithappen · 04/10/2022 15:57

Was at terminal 3 about three weeks ago and security was a breeze, straight through and no ques

Freddiefan · 04/10/2022 15:58

A friend had trouble with the diversion from the motorway so maybe look into that before you go?

somewhereovertherain · 04/10/2022 15:59

Flew yesterday security slow - 9.20 flight arrived a 6.30. - 45 minutes through security. Didn’t have check in bags but long queues for them. This was terminal 3. really enjoyed the escape lounge though. - not as good as some and grumpy Mancs working but food and drink good

Redcrayons · 04/10/2022 16:00

I went first week of September and it was fine. The biggest queue was at a Starbucks.

It was the first time I’d flown with just hand luggage, so didn’t know to have all toiletries and electricals to hand, so got pulled out of the queue to sort it out. They weren’t exactly rude, but not particularly friendly either.

somewhereovertherain · 04/10/2022 16:01

manchester definitely ranks in my shit airport list much prefer Liverpool or Leeds.

Pointblank2 · 04/10/2022 16:04

I’m glad I’m not the only one that think the security staff at Manchester are awful. We travel 4 times a year and there’s no where else in the north or abroad where they are as picky or rude. It just sets the holiday off on the wrong foot.
If I can fly from somewhere else in the north even if it’s more expensive then I will, the trouble is that Manchester have the biggest choice of destinations so sometimes it’s necessary.

GiantKitten · 04/10/2022 16:09

Generally IME it’s worst when you’re on one of the very many very early flights - 5.40-7.30.
Later in the day is usually more civilised.
Check the departures page for other flights at your terminal.

We've been out of Manchester 3 times this year and it was fine the second and third times, took over an hour to get through security the first time but that was in April when it was all a bit chaotic.

Worst part of the whole experience was that it took 90 minutes for our hold bag to reappear when we came back in July, but a couple of weeks ago, it was much quicker than that.

Agree about the second search leading to huge delays, so follow the rules about electronics and liquids to the letter (you'll have plenty of time to read the signs and listen to staff while queuing) to reduce the risk, although they do sometimes pull compliant bags through for random checks.

maddy68 · 04/10/2022 16:50

I usually try to fly from Liverpool instead. It's much nicer calmer and more efficient

Sirzy · 04/10/2022 16:52

Which terminal? We have to use t3 pretty often and recently if has been pretty simple.

KingChanter · 04/10/2022 21:54

Flew from there a few days ago, we arrived 3 hours 30 mins before flight time and were literally through to duty free and shopping in 30 minutes.

So we just sat. For 3 hours.

But at least we weren't rushing? Watch out for the M56, they're doing something with a bridge, give yourself plenty of extra time if driving that way.

Thanks for the heads up on M56 👍

If you think the security staff are bad, try the taxi drivers...

Go fast track if you can. Manchester airport is one of the worst airports I go through. Last time they wanted to search my partners hand luggage on the way out - 30 minute wait!!
