Choosing plane seats - will this be okay?

Hi, I'm taking my 3DC on holiday in October - just booked today but haven't chosen seats yet as I want to make sure what I'm thinking of doing is actually allowed!

So as the seats are in rows of 3 I was thinking of me on the end of the aisle and then DC across the aisle on the row next to me. They're fighting over who gets the window seat so I thought I could do one DC in the window on the way there, one on the way back and the eldest who isn't as fussed gets first dibs on our 2023 holiday to florida!

I need to make sure though - will youngest DS (aged 11 when we fly) be able to sit in the window seat? As he will be 2 seats (plus the aisle) away from me? All DC are fine with it, as am I, but don't want to actually book the seats until I know it will actually be allowed by the airline.

You’re way over thinking it. Of course they will. They’re 11. As long as it’s not an emergency exit window seat, that’s fine.

Book A,B,C and D across the aisle and sit wherever you want to in whatever combo you want.

Yes, that's fine.

Think mine were 10,8 and 7 first time I took them away.

All 3 sat together ,with me in ajoining aisle seat .
Can't remember any issues .

Thanks. Yes I'm overthinking but I'd rather that than underthink it and make a mistake!

We ask to learn and all that! 😉

Why not have A and B in the two rows so both young ones get a window. One can sit with the older one in front of you and the other.

No one cares about teenage children. Sit them where you like.

  • And you sit with the other

We usually go for a window middle and the window middle behind. It means there is an aisle passenger inconvenienced when we need to get out, but doubles the window seat and also means I have some control over seat kicking from the passenger behind!
