Someone I know is going to be travelling frequently (in Europe) with their new job and I'd like to buy them something....what travel items have you found the most useful?

Packing cubes. I have some from IKEA that are good.

Adapter, powerbank and cable and charger holder with extra chargers - so they can keep the spare set in their suitcase and won't forget them - really annoying to get to a hotel late at night with your phone out of charge and charger at home.

I have looked at the packing cubes, I'm not sure if she is organised enough to use them 😂 I might buy some for myself though!

I still find a travel wallet useful. I know tickets are on phones but often printed out is quicker - kept in a real wallet! Bag of small luxury travel Products. I like Liz Earle.

Travel sized masks or creams or stuff like shampoo etc, these things are really useful and are easy to transport, so this would hit the nail in the head! Sleeping and earplugs are quite useful on airplanes, so maybe thing of that. Maybe something from the tech side, like good headphones or a software to make travel slideshows if they take lots of pictures.

Personalised luggage strap.

This is what I gave as a present for someone similar. Went to Boots and chose a lovely large bag and then filled it from the 3 for 2 travel miniatures section.

I'd second travel wallet with space for passports, travel docs etc. I was given a personnalised one as a leaving gift from a job and am still using it regularly years later

Now that's a good idea, travel miniatures. I'll go and ram raid boots today!

ziplock bags, jewellery roll holder, travel journal with essential numbers (bank, family, etc), translation apps, really good eye mask and noise cancelling headphones or ear plugs, a good quality scarf, compede blister feet stickers, scanned documents, cloud storage or extra memory cards, spotify or similar for music, kindle if she likes reading, hot and cold insulating drinking bottle, plug socket adapters, extra long charger cables.

Cervinia · 03/06/2022 06:51

A really nice rucksack with lots of sections for laptop, phone, purse, passport, change of clothes, toiletries etc

DieschoensteZeitdesJahres · 03/06/2022 07:18

I recently bought an infinity travel scarf with a pocket in it and it turned out to be really handy. Large enough to hold a phone or passport etc.

Something like this Nordace one -

There are plenty of cheap ones on Amazon too.

Mount2Climb · 03/06/2022 07:24

@DieschoensteZeitdesJahres i LOVE this!! thanks for recommending it

I travel a lot for work and the gifts I’d be most grateful for would be:

  • nice warm scarf / cardigan I can wrap myself in when it gets cold on the plane, train, hotel
  • good eye mask and noise-cancelling earplugs or headphones
  • kindle vouchers
  • power banks
I buy my own specific travel liquids so most generic miniatures would go to waste (I’m even ‘specific’ about what toothpaste I use). I have amazing any-to-any converter+adapter plug but this is something that could be very useful if the person doesn’t have one yet.

An Apple AirTag to track hold luggage

TizerorFizz · 03/06/2022 09:56

@WisteriaWishes
Do you know how well these work? I’ve read varying reports. I have an iPhone 13 so they are compatible.

sashh · 03/06/2022 10:27

A money belt.

Will they be travelling outside the Eurozone? If so small amounts of cash in different currencies put in the wallet, coins if you can get them as they are useful for luggage trollies.

An unusually coloured / patterned bag/luggage so it is easy to see on the baggage claim.

OhThatChicken · 03/06/2022 10:41

I know this is probably not the sexiest gift you can give someone, but in terms of travel stuff that has made a massive difference to my work life I absolutely love it and it has been incredibly helpful.

It's a plug adaptor that works across the world (basically you can choose which prongs come out so it does US/UK/Aus/Europe etc with no additional bits to keep hold of or in my case lose!) and has four USB slots at the top so I can simultaneously charge phone/ipad/smart watch in one go.

(Ignore the slightly disconcerting typo in the link! 😂)
