Is there a thread asking where everyone is going for Easter yet? If not, this can be it

I am fed the feck up and want some sun.

I notice that schools are off for 2 weeks - end March/April and wondered where everyone is going on holiday (or if you are).

Please tell me where I can get guaranteed sun, not longhaul flights, cheap.

Our school hols are in the middle of April & we're going to the Algarve. We went last year & despite a couple of grey afternoons & one torrential downpour, the weather was lovely & not too hot for children (maybe v low 20s?). This year our Queasyjet flights were about 600 for 4, the villa 450, plus car hire.

I thought you said you'd been everywhere MD?

well come on over then, go on, you must have dozens of frequent flyer points

bozza · 09/01/2008 14:13

Oliveoil · 09/01/2008 14:14

Yay - I am going to El Gouna in Egypt and I'm going to get some sun [smug emotion]

bozza · 09/01/2008 14:39

Ah so you don't need to wait until the summer like the rest of us mugs. That is the only thing that puts me off going at Easter (esp when it is so early) having to go through all the rest of the summer without a break.

Arti, we went to Marrakech, then drove to Essaouira then towards Ouzarzate on edge of desert. Planned it (vaguely beforehand with a Lonely Planet0 then just drove. It was absolutely great, all of it and very easy.

I speak French but you could manage easily enough without it.

Highly recommended.

By May it is getting bloody hot though.

Artichokes · 09/01/2008 18:07

Thanks Moondog. It sounds a great trip and we would be going in early April so it might not be too hot.

The challenge is persuading DH that independent travel in North Africa is OK with an 18 month old toddler. I would love the adventure (I spent my ninth year travelling across Turkey Armenia in a VW camper bus with my mum). However, DH is more of a book-a-nice-safe-villa-in-Tuscany-type.

moondog · 09/01/2008 18:51

Art, we have travelled loads with our children (and lived on the Turkish Armenian border for three years).
It has been nothing but positive.
