Late December - Sharm/Hurghada or Canaries?

Looking for destinations ideas for some winter daylight - not necessarily hot, just a break from the endless grey. Post Christmas.

Do we play it safe with canaries (probably Tenerife) or go for Hurghada or sharm el sheik?

I've not been to Egypt since pre kids, political landscape was quite different. Kids are now late primary age, and would just be a week.

I've not been to Hurghada, anyone reading know if trips to Luxor are feasible?

Cape Verdi & Dubai etc don't really appeal, and as it's just a week don't want anything long haul.

Definitely Egypt in December. I’ve found it’s a lot easier to find heated pools (especially kids pools) in Egypt.
There are lots of companies which do day trip packages to Luxor but it takes about 4 hours each way and most of them pick up from your hotel at about 4 or 5 in the morning!

We've just come back from 10 days in Sharm (20-30th March) having previously gone to the Canaries at this time of year. Don't think we will ever go back to the Canaries. Egypt was amazing. The staff were so attentive, waiter service everywhere. Gorgeous sunshine (it was cool at night) and we just felt it was better value than anywhere we've stayed in Lanzarote/Tenerife.

Pyramid trip is about £200 per person and a very long day. We didn't bother.

I've been to Tenerife in December and the weather was lovely, sunbathing weather. We had some times of the day where it was overcast but it wasn't an issue. I like being able to walk between resorts, visit shops and restaurants etc and Tenerife was all open. Christmas lights and poinsettias everywhere.

Hi i moved here to hughada 12 months ago on my own. I can recommend the winters here warm in the day but you need a cardie at night. I know how strange and a bit scary it is to travel on your own as a woman. If any ladies want to come please let me know i will be very happy to help. Beginning of the year i set up my own tour company here as i got so tired of people saying they were being ripped of by locals. So im an english woman abroad lol. So please feel free if you want to come to hurghada message me i can give you all the gen adivse on hotels etc. And any tips about visa etc. Im happy to help i know my way around even know a few ababic words that will help. Its the most stunning please the sea is crystal clear its the Caribbean without the hurricanes. Lol

Regards
Julie

We stayed at Magic World in Sharm

Also here to say Sharm is wonderful! We have just returned from a week at the tui blue sensatori resort. Can't recommend it enough.

My choice would be Jaz Aquamarine in Hurghada. We’ve loved all the Jaz hotels.
Luxor is incredible, I’d definitely choose it over Cairo.

Looks fab. Have you been there in dec/Jan time?

I have been to Egypt in January.
the weather obviously cooler, and the days are much shorter - have a look at sunset times.
But the pools will be heated and it will still be in the low 20s and dry.
