Kennedy Space Centre with young children

My daughter is taking her boys aged 4 and 6 to the US for a holiday. She is unsure if they are likely to enjoy a trip to the Kennedy Space Centre when they are in Florida or would it be better to wait until they are older? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would! It’s really good- would take a day to do it all justice so might want to prioritize what they see there incase the kids flake.

Tough one.
If it’s for memories , it’ll be better if they wait 5 years.
If it’s more la question of will they get bored on the day, I think it’s wasted on the 4 year old - he won’t ‘get’ where they are. The 6 year old maybe.
Assuming everything is open, no covid restrictions, there’s the bus tour around the site, there’s the rocket garden and the hall where the Saturn V lies on its side.
Then there’s theatres where you sit and watch short IMAX movies , think one of them might be 3D, then there’s Lunch with an astronaut. (Buffet style followed by 40mins talk and some q&a ).

It’ll be hot in the summer months.

Possibly look to see if there’s any launches by SpaceX while your daughter is away, see that as well/instead.

My kids would have seen it as much less fun than the rest of the stuff we did in Florida at that age.
We took them when they were older.

I agree that I don’t think they’ll ‘get it’

There’s a fair amount that kids will enjoy looking at but also a lot that won’t mean anything to them.

I wouldn’t take little kids I don’t think.

Not worth the time or money. There's much better things to do so I'd give it a miss.

My 2 were 8 and 10 when they went and loved it. They both love space and younger one had space bedroom so would probably enjoy it at a younger age. Are the kids into space?

I went as a teen, and my sister would have been 7. We all enjoyed it.
Although what we remember most is a German tourist being arrested for pushing a mouthy teenager!

HermioneWeasley · 15/03/2022 15:32

I wouldn’t bother with kids that young

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/03/2022 16:03

I went to the one in Texas.

The cabinet contains ‘how astronauts poop’ was imposible to get near to. Totally irrelevant!

Crackingowlsanctuary · 15/03/2022 20:46

We took ours when they were about 11, 9 and 6 I think? The older two loved it but our youngest was annoyingly tired and cranky that day and most of our memories involve trying to stop her melting down! She wasn’t like that every day… we were just unlucky on that one.

They are 16, 14 and 11 now and I would absolutely love to take them at this age. If she’s planning on returning in the future I would wait until they are 10-11+ as they would appreciate it so much more then. So much to do in Orlando anyway, so definitely save it for a later visit. It’s an amazing place but definitely suited more to slightly older kids and adults.

We went last summer, older
Kids and a 4yo. It was hard work and the queues made it difficult to see stuff, we didn’t actually see much and were very frazzled.! We did get on the bus to see Apollo?? Can’t remember. One thing to note was all but one restaurant was closed and it was having. We ended up having ice-cream and popcorn for lunch. Not sure if that’s better this year. We did not enjoy the day at all.

PhoboPhobia · 16/03/2022 19:41

I’ve just remembered that they have a plan your day section on their website where you can select who is visiting. Might give some ideas as to what they recommend for younger kids.

I remember going as a 6 year old and found it really boring. I would love to go again now and fully appreciate but at 6, I just wanted to be in a theme park!

We went there when my children were 4 and 6. We also did 2 days at Disney's Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. The Space Centre was definitely their favourite and the the one that they remember most 10 years later.
