Vegas with DC

ChickPhilA · 14/03/2022 15:30

We are heading to Vegas in a few weeks with the DC aged 15 and 13.

Any recommendations? So far we have the Heart Attack Grill and Stratosphere rides so we're lacking inspiration.

Any recommendations for a helicopter tour/grand canyon activity?

In fact anything that the DC can do with us!

Get a pic at the Vegas sign, there's a parking lot next to it. Red Rock and Death Valley are both excellent for a day and there a couple of Ghost Towns nearby. The Neon Museum is fun and there are a few rollercoasters they might like (NYNY or the Adventuredome at Circus Circus might have a few teenage friendly rides). They might like Meow Wolf in Area 15. If you're driving, Seven Magic Mountains is fun if they want a photo.

I loved the helicopter over the canyon, it's a great experience and you get to see Hoover Dam and the strip from above. It's quite different from going to the North or South Rim.

Its looking a bit tired these days as its one of the older, if not the oldest, hotels on that part of the Strip. I'd go for one of the other hotels like Paris.

If you don't want a casino/big strip hotel there's a place called the Grand Chateau that I like (my kids are much younger so I avoid the casino hotels!). It's opposite the side of Planet Hollywood/across from the Cosmo so just a few seconds walk from the strip and has 2 bedroom villas which work great for families. The parking is free and really quick to drop/retrieve the car.

They’d probably love the zip lining down Fremont Street & the light show there is outstanding tooSmile

Neon Graveyard

Freemont Street

Local shopping outlets

We went to a baseball game while we were there which was a real American experience I can't remember the team but the stadium wasn't far from Freemont Street from memory.

We also went to an arcade place where it was a shop full of every arcade game you could think of, old fashioned and new ones, that was quite fun.

Some friends went to a shooting range too

Cirque du soleil are amazing if you can get tickets

Park MGM is only a couple of years old, right in the middle of the Strip and much more reasonably priced than Venetian, Bellagio etc. I haven't stated there yet but I did have a wander around the common areas and it looks pretty nice!

haggisaggis · 24/03/2022 19:36

We hated the MGM Grand hotel! Absolutely massive and stank of weed. Just our opinion though.

Duopingu · 24/03/2022 19:44

MGM I think had the awful zoo inside when I went. Bellagio fountains fun for 30 minutes and the ride off the big tower at the end of the strip was diverting but this is a very adult place to be. Las Vegas is basically one really really long road in the middle of nowhere. Grand Canyon by helicopter only place I could think would be a nice exciting thing for kids.

Park MGM is a different hotel to MGM (which must have been built in the 60's or 70's, it's so dated!). Park MGM is on the opposite side of the Strip and was just having their Grand Opening last time I went which was early 2019 I think.

abc4321 · 24/03/2022 20:04

I think most of the helicopter rides from LV are to the West Canyon, not the Grand Canyon proper (unless you do a plane bit first).

My kids loved La Reve (along Cirque du Soleil lines) and the north/south outlet malls.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/03/2022 21:23

MGM grand was built between 1991 and 1993.

Park mgm hotel is non smoking throughout and it used to be called the Monte Carlo.

tumpymummy · 03/04/2022 09:22

My teenagers just enjoyed walking up and down the strip, looking at all the amazing hotels and malls. We stayed at the Venetian which was a sight in itself. Didnt pay for any extra activities. We too were on a road trip, so sometimes it's nice to just chill by a nice pool, especially in the heat of LAS.

I live in Los Angeles and used to visit Vegas frequently. If you're coming from the UK, I would definitely recommend a Cirque du Soleil show and a visit to the gun range. This gun range used to send a Humvee to pick you up from your hotel, so long as you call ahead:

Just make sure to tip. For food, I would recommend:
Tacos: www.yelp.com/biz/tacos-el-gordo-las-vegas-2
Tapas: www.yelp.com/biz/firefly-tapas-kitchen-and-bar-las-vegas-2
Pho: www.yelp.com/biz/pho-kim-long-las-vegas
Hotel buffer: It's an experience.

Yelp is your best friend for finding things to do here.

Fuzzy303 · 08/03/2024 09:07

The Penn & Teller magic show is fantastic & they meet & greet everyone after the show in the foyer. Was one of our highlights

Carriemac · 10/03/2024 11:44

Thanks fuzzy that's a great idea
