Mallorca - Soller or Deia?

Where would you stay?

Options are a mid-range hotel in Deia or a nicer, more expensive one in Soller.

That should be Port de Soller.

I stayed in Port de Soller and went to Deia for the day. I'd do that again.

Agree with pp, the beach near Deia (but still a good walk away) did not impress me at all - I'm sure a meal at the restaurant there would be nice though. Deia is just a quite pretty village on a hill to maybe visit for the day and I would stay in Port de Soller every time. I preferred Valldemossa to Deia too, very pretty with much more going on. Getting the train to soller and the tram down to Port de Soller is lovely and then it's an easy trip up to visit Soller. Easy to catch the bus from Soller to anywhere you want to go as well although some of the bus drivers are miserable fuckers.

I didn't realise how long the walk was to the beach. I loved The Night Manager so had to go and visit the restaurant. I sat and had a beer and all I could think about was how I had to walk back up the bloody hill 😂

The cove was nice but not wow.

I have always wanted to stay in Deia though.

Quiet is not an issue for me! Only going for a short trip ...

But the only hotel with availability is a bit crummy looking.

If I had the funds and was only there for a short time I'd probably consider staying at La Residencia.

Tulipomania · 04/03/2022 18:20

sadly that is way beyond my budget! I would love to stay there too ...

I logged onto La Residencia's website just to see how much it would cost for the 4 nights I am there - it is £12k minimum - and now I'm being followed all over social media by their ads! Aggghhhh!

I’d Deia is on your to-do list then go for it.

I think you’d be disappointed with anything else.

You can pop into LR for morning coffee and cakes and it’s much more reasonable !

Supersee · 04/03/2022 19:17

It's definitely out of my price range but I didn't realise it was that much! Maybe just book a meal at the restaurant or a coffee as the PP said!

I stayed at the Aimia Hotel in PDS if you choose to stay there and I liked it. Nice big room with a big balcony but set back from the seafront and just a short walk away from the bus to Deia etc. The restaurant gets good reviews too and I got a decent price booking direct.

Port de Soller and take a boat trip round to Deia. That's my vote.

Tulipomania · 04/03/2022 19:18

TBF they have cheaper rooms but just no availability when I need to go.

I'd stay in soller and walk across the hill to deia. There's a really nice orange farm in between that does freshly squeezed juice in the garden. And you can get a bus or taxi back from deia.

If you stay in the port you can walk across the hill on the other side to fornalutz (sp?) and then into the town itself, getting a tram back to the port if you've gone far enough.

I can't tell you how envious I am.

Clymene · 04/03/2022 19:27

Honestly Deia isn't all that. Port de Soller is much nicer.

babbi · 04/03/2022 19:28

Definitely Puerto Soller … I used to live there 😊
