Passports - how long are they taking?

Finally decided to go abroad for the first time in 4 years. I missed going in 2019 due to breast cancer treatment and so it's much awaited.

Checked passports and DH's runs out in May. So you need 3 months clear after the holiday for Europe and I ordered a renewal 10 days ago.
You can track online but it still says awaiting old passport. I know they have had it since they signed for it a week ago.

I dare not book until it comes back.

Not recent, but the first update we got was that the passport had been issued.
Hope it arrives soon. There is a website where people have entered their re ent waiting times, but I can't remember what it's called, sorry.

Mine took just over 3 weeks, online renewal on the 1st Feb, arrived on the 24th.

Honeysuckle80 · 26/02/2022 16:37

I renewed mine online on 8th Feb, took them a few days to update the system to say they’d received my old passport and I received the new one today.

Hoppinggreen · 26/02/2022 16:39

DHs took 4 weeks

itsnotdeep · 26/02/2022 16:43

My dd's is going to be less than 3 weeks I think - I got an email to say it's on its way and we applied on 10th Feb.

Uncomplicated · 26/02/2022 16:45

Received mine at the beginning of feb. It took 2 and a half weeks.

3xmonsters · 26/02/2022 16:45

Ours have just come through. All done through the post office, about 3weeks.

Anjo2011 · 26/02/2022 16:48

Sent my youngest dc’s passport away 4th of Feb. It’s been despatched back to us by secure delivery yesterday. Their Website tells you current processing times, it says currently three weeks. That’s what ours took so I would apply on line this weekend and you will have it back in time. The process is very slick, lots of updates and steps telling you what happens next.

No1HolidayPlanner · 26/02/2022 16:51

My childs renewal.. we had an update that old passport was received 2 weeks after posting.. it was signed as received after 4 days.. no further updates yet.. now 3 weeks on.. so do yours straight away

mashpot · 26/02/2022 16:51

DS has taken ages! Child renewal submitted on 25 Jan and still not back. They didn’t acknowledge his old passport had been received until 8 days after it had been signed for, every step has been slow.

Aposterhasnoname · 26/02/2022 16:53

We did ours a few weeks ago, took four weeks to the day.

Two weeks. But it took ages for them to acknowledge receipt of the old one. Once they did it was approved and posted out the same day.

ApolloandDaphne · 26/02/2022 17:04

I have just checked. It took 10 says for the old one to be acknowledged then I got the new one 4 days later.

BrieAndChilli · 26/02/2022 17:31

Problem is, last month it might have been 3 weeks but now we are a month closer to holiday season, people have recovered financially from Christmas so starting to book holidays/have the money to renew passports etc so waiting times are going to creep up!

This is the link to check times, currently 4 to 5 weeks depending on type of passport applied for.

SpaghettiSquash · 26/02/2022 17:51

Very quick for me. I applied online and posted my old passport back on 12th Feb. My new passport arrived last Tuesday just ten days later.

SpaghettiSquash · 26/02/2022 17:54

@BirdOnTheWire The tracking for mine took a week to update from them receiving my old passport to stating they had it. Two hours later it updated to say that my new passport had been approved and was going to print.

APurpleSquirrel · 26/02/2022 18:25

Applied for my adult renewal on 2nd Feb online, old passport etc posted following day. Took 10 days for them to acknowledge receipt of documents, then my new passport arrived on Thursday, so 22 days in total.
Got to do DDs next but we aren't going away so not in a rush.

notacooldad · 26/02/2022 19:02

I got mine back on Wednesday. It took exactly two weeks. ( renewal)

Hope that's the case for us then.
The application process was certainly quick and easy. Even down to being able to take your own photo and having it approved as acceptable before submission.

I would like to get away beginning of April so should be ok. Just want to book now I've picked out a holiday. Grin

Mine just took four weeks and that was with change of name. Was very impressed as I assumed Covid would be given as a reason for shite service. But was not the case!

Meredusoleil · 26/02/2022 21:37

Approximately 3 weeks for dd2's passport renewal. Had already booked to go away St beginning of April and info on website was 10 week wait, so was quite anxious!

Chocolatefrenzy · 26/02/2022 23:46
