August Holiday somewhere not too hot

Finally hoping to go abroad this year. No flexibility on annual leave from work, one week booked in August.
Would like a family friendly holiday (teens), beach, swimming pool, bit of history in a town/village.
Somewhere like Crete would be perfect but will be just too hot in august.
Any ideas for destination?

@rookiemere

Morzine, France - ski location in winter, in summer loads of outdoor activities and a municipal outdoor pool and mountain biking. Word of caution though after my recent ski apartment experience, book from an English operator such as Simply Morzine unless you want to spend your last day cleaning.

We went a few years ago with DS and a pal and stayed in a hotel through Simply Morzine and it was a fab holiday as we're not great with super high temperatures either.

We went to Courcheval a few summers ago to see friends.
It was mid 20s and we had a lovely time.

I went to Crete late last August and it really wasn’t too hot, there was a lovely breeze so I guess it depends on your dates.

Opinions about the trip to get a visa to Russia are divided. I personally think that it is better to apply for a visa using russia-travel visa services. This can be considered as a large and complex process with a lot of nuances and bureaucratic moments. Most Russian local specialists insist that it is now more profitable to prepare the entire infrastructure in advance, without expecting anything in advance, even if they concern the inability to get into the embassy hall these days due to the overgrown security service; on the other hand, there are those who note that it is almost impossible to obtain such visas now (without confirming their statement with facts).
