Rhodes? Nice for quiet getaway?

We are looking at Rhodes for a couples trip in late September. We loved Athens for the history and would be staying in the Old town. Is it a nice place to visit? We'd love to see Lindos too.

My questions really are is Rhodes a nice island, are the beaches nice and is the island over run with nightclubs / party goers? We aren't really looking for that vibe but would prefer total honesty now before we book it! If it's not what we're looking for, would Crete/Corfu be better?

Thanks in advance!

I’d say Rhodes is the best island for history and probably one of the best for families. It really depends which resort you go to. Many areas are very developed with big resorts and beach activities whilst other areas still underdeveloped and authentic
The whole east coast is a swimmer’s, snorkeler’s, beach bum’s mecca, and a lot of the beaches are really pretty - turquoise water, pebbled coves etc…
Avoid the 18-30s hotspot Faliraki. Rhodes Town is also pumping most nights in the high season.

We are off to Pefkos again this year. Been there 12+ times over the years. It's an hour's drive from Rhodes Town (so day trips easy) and a couple of miles from Lindos. Beautiful beaches, fab restaurants, quiet and very friendly, but busy enough to be good fun. We have been to lots of places in Greece & Spain and had great holidays, but we always look forward to getting back to Pefki. We have sent a few friends there over the years and they have all been back at least once since too. Cannot wait.

Rhodes is nice but v arid. I prefer Corfu, prettier and more verdant

Rhodes is lovely. The old town is great, lots to see. Lindos is beautiful. Stay away from the resorts on the north-east coast.

I'm going to Kalithea in April on my own. Been to Linda's and Pefkos in the past. Love Rhodes but generally prefer Crete

@hangsangwitch - my family holidays in the 80s were spent in Pefkos when it was nothing but 4 villas, 3 family run restaurants, “Pefkos by Night” nightclub (term used loosely!) and the local shop.

We loved it so much we all went back separately as adults with various boyfriends, our own kids etc to stay and still see the family who owned one/two of the restaurants!

OP, I haven’t been back since early 2000s as I live in the Caribbean now but Lindos is one of my favorite places in the world - as I recall there was a government rule that nothing could be built or changed in lindos because of its immense history. All nightclubs had to be air sealed to stop sound which made it perfect for a holiday that wasn’t at all rowdy!

Please do go and enjoy it, I’m so envious as I miss it so much! Consider it my second home as I have so many memories there!

Rhodes is lovely, very quiet as I recall.

I think you'll be very surprised how busy it is in September. We went in August and won't go back. We did it as part of an island hopping tour, spent a week in the Old Town and Lindos and it was our least favourite. It won't be as busy in September but it was heaving.

I would go to Rhodes purely to get the ferry to Symi. That was amazing and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Crete (North East / East coast) is much, much nicer then Rhodes.

Thank you so much for all your comments, they've been so helpful! We will definitely take the boat over to Symi, it looks gorgeous.

Sorry to resurrect this thread!!

Just wondered if anyone can vouch for pefkos recently?

Especially @hangsangwitch 😁

Looking to go in about a weeks time, just a bit worried as I looked up some older threads on here and some people were saying its gone like Blackpool which isn't us at all. They were saying all the restaurants are the same etc.

This will be our first child free holiday in many years after having to be all inclusive/practical so looking forward to going self catering and getting around the island.

All opinions appreciated!
