Where should I try?

There is a really nice noodle bar in the arcade around Liverpool Street tube, quite close to Spitalfields
This is not helpful as I cannot remember its name and therefore don't know if it opens evenings
Dino and bink both know it...are they around perchance...?
It's a bit too eat and run to attract a major office gathering I think but the food is fantastic

Blu · 17/12/2007 14:47

Thanks Marina - DP will be able to find it from that description and check it out for evening opening tomorrow morning and then text me!

Eat and run is the idea - do Leon do main courses without brown rice? (DS unlikely to eat brown rice - but would v mmuch like Leon meatballs etc)

Canteen in Spitalfields is decent, pretty quick, and trying to make a booking with them is a ludicrous PITA so you should be safe from the office parties.

There is a branch of Carluccio's just by Spitalfields market which is lovely (have just been bought lunch there by one of the partners, yum).

There is also a Pizza Express on Bishopsgate which is reliable and unlikely to be full of office party types at 6 pm.

The noodle place is called Ekachai and there is a bit more about it here www.allinlondon.co.uk/restaurants/restaurant-2428.php.

Thank You!

We are going to see the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain!!! here!

Why we can't go and watch someone arsing around in the back end of a panto cow like a normal family, I don't know!

Have you seen them live before blu? They are fantastic
Their cover version of Monster on The Slammer had me gnawing the sofa with laughter

Marina · 17/12/2007 15:16

Would you honestly rather be festering in Bromley watching Starsky as Captain Hook? Swap ya

Blu · 17/12/2007 15:21

I'm persuaded, Marina!

I have seen a v short performance and they were, indeed, fantastic! I hope they do Monster on the Slammer!

Will give my Christmas Spirit a little polish and re Bromley, "Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you "

The Canteen in Spitalfields is really really fab and I doubt it will attract big parties. Does English food - fish & chips and roasts and Pea& Ham soup, etc. It's where I always head when I am that way.

Other option of course is to head into Brick Lane for a curry. Just aim for whichever curry house is the busiest and you won't go wrong.

We went to Carluccios.

I was really impressed.

Very nice food at very reasonable prices - DP's something al funghi was the same price as any other pasta dish in a chain italian pasta / pizza place, but about 100% better. Obviously fresh pasta, etc. I had mullet, and the children's menu is the best I have come across for quality and value.
For £4-95 you get
grissini (proper - not fossilised cotton-wool 'breadsticks)
A soft drink (DS had real lemonade)
A pasta course - choice of pastas and sauces
Main course - two pasta based options which is a bit hefty if they have a pasta course, or chicken breast with rosemary roast potatoes
carluccios ice cream.

We had speciality breads, mineral water, two big glasses of nice wine, extra soft drink...and the total bill for the three of us was £32.

We love Carluccios - it really is pleasingly cheap isn't it! Often go in the St Christophers Place one
So....what did you think of the Ukulele Orchestra then blu?

My friend's brother runs Canteen - so have to recommend it!

Another vote for Canteen - hearty food done very well, solid portions, average price of mains is £10. Had lunch for 2 there on Wed - called and was told they would not take reservations. But when I arrived at about 12:15, was told the entire inside section was booked up! We sat outside, which had heaters, and was fine. If it is just ds and you, they should be able to fit you in, esp if you go early ie from 12 noon.

blueshoes · 20/12/2007 19:01

Sorry, just read 6pm dinner - I imagine you and ds will be alright as well as it is early.
