Covid 19 DH tested positive

Could someone guide me please.

DH has tested positive for Covid yesterday. Not feeling particularly unwell. We want to go on holiday some time in Feb 22. I understand that realistically we should avoid testing for 90 days. The country we are planning to go to ONLY accepts a negative PCR test. We have been double and shortly treble jabbed but this country (South Africa) doesnt seem interested in this.

Should we book end of Feb? Where has the 90 days come from and is this a worst case scenario. We dont want to do a PCR test Feb time and find the virus is still there!

This issue is that the PCR could pick up fragments of the old infection and give a posituve result even when no longer contagious. You could end up getting it from him too so allow for that in your travel plans

Yes 90 days is a worst case. Most people are negative within 3 weeks I read when I looked into this. But there are unlucky ones!

You'd be taking a risk, that's the bottom line. If you test positive on a fit-to-fly PCR, you won't be allowed into South Africa (unless the rules have changed by then).

So if you are going to book make doubly sure that your insurance would cover you in the event that you have to cancel.

Just to reassure you - our whole family were negative within 2 weeks of our positive PCR

It's a risk, you'll probably be ok but the test may still come back positive, or inconclusive. We've seen quite a few 'inconclusives' at work when PCRs have been repeated within 90 days

So after 90 days will be fine? We have booked for end of February.
