Holidays
Fear of flying
Candleinthebreeze · 31/10/2021 19:03
Today I didn’t take a flight for the first time in my life due to a fear of flying. I fly fairly often on holiday etc etc but am always scared it has got easier over recent years but today I just couldn’t face it.
I’ve booked a session with a hypnotist on Tuesday, has anyone done this and did it work?
I can’t imagine me being the easiest person to ‘put under’ I’m quite strong willed
I have another flight later this month that I have to take, I’m terrified!

I can only fly with three glasses of red in me and a couple diazepam.
Not everyone's choice 😂 but whatever works. Love the destination but need to be subdued beyond belief to sit there for x hours in a packed tube in the sky that I have no control over and no option to get off.

Thanks for that!
I don’t drink so not an option, and drugs haven’t helped before

What drugs have you tried - lorazepam, diazepam, propranolol, prochlorperazine... all have gotten me onto flights.
Or there are things like Kalms, rescue remedy.

Sorry to actually answer your question I've never seen a hypnotist but have friends that swear by it.
Maybe take a diazepam before the hypnotist to relax a little more!

I had diazepam last time - didn’t work!
I’ve considered hypnotherapy but I don’t think it would work for me, I’m not really open to that kind of thing.
Fear of flying course is probably the best option.

I developed fear of flying which got so crippling I’d holiday in southern Spain via train from London. I did BA’s flying with confidence course and it helped me turn the situation around. I didn’t do the in person course at an airport, I just borrowed the book form the library www.amazon.co.uk/Flying-Confidence-proven-programme-flying/dp/0091947855?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Only just seen this thread. How did your session go? I have a truly debilitating fear of flying - have spent a fortune on courses etc and it sucks as my greatest joy is travel. But hypnotherapy DID work for me, albeit only to take the edge off and it wore off over time.
