Villa or All Inc during Covid

Hi all

We really want to get a week away but I am terrified of having to isolate on arrival as I have young kids and would be gutting obviously.

Do you think a safe bet would be a villa so that if the need to self isolate we couid just stay in the villa? Or do you have to go into a special hotel?

Really wouid prefer a resort but what if there were classes within the resort so that lock it down?

I cannot see any information regarding this?

If you test positive and someone has booked the villa for the next couple of weeks?
You really need to look at the rules for the country for any kind of isolation/quarantine. Some countries have quarantine hotels paid for by that country, in others you foot the bill (insurance needs to be very carefully chosen and Covid proof) Others don't have anything specific.

But ...when all of that has been factored in, I'd go for a hotel every time. I don't want to be cooking on holiday!

I think it really depends where you go and the country’s rules.

Would the UK do? At least there’s no quarantine

In Greece they send you to a covid hotel anyway

We went away in June, and we booked an Airbnb because we wanted to have a lot of space in case we either needed to isolate, or in case there were restrictions on bars/restaurants which would cause “the vibe” to be off/not busy. It worked great for us because we had a beautiful sun-drenched terrace for some breakfasts and wine at home and once there the restaurants and bars were unaffected.

In your situation I would probably go for the villa (especially if it has its own pool) because worst case scenario if you have to isolate you can still enjoy the holiday (albeit with delivery services only). Do check your travel insurance very carefully though, and rules for +Ive isolation in your chosen destination.

We prefer to go “self catered”, but I don’t cook on holiday either. Also, staying in a hotel is a PITA with older children who don't like getting up for breakfast. We eat out all the time. I only have toast at breakfast, so I’m not bothered about a big breakfast.

One of the best holidays we had was in an aparthotel in Sicily where a light continental breakfast was included. I would hate to feel stuck in the same hotel for meals every night. I prefer to try the local cuisine.

If you test positive in most holiday destinations I believe they move you to a covid hotel , paid for by the relevant government, certainly the case in Balearics. There was someone online moaning about quality and food and lack of water in one, so don't expect 5 star.

Also be aware that if you test positive you could test positive for weeks - less of a risk with lateral flow though which is what you need to get back. There is no way of having a risk free holiday abroad this Summer, wouldn't risk it myself quite frankly with infections as high as they are.
