Beach. Some things for children (e.g. rides, funfair, maze) bit of history, maybe an art gallery or two. Pool. Not too cold.

...these are dh's criteria for our summer holiday next year.

another criterion he seems fond of is... "not anything dw has suggested"

uk or shorthaul please.

all suggestions very welcome.

TIA

Who is actually booking and researching this holiday bk? Do you feel you can invoke booker's prerogative or is that just not going to work in the current circumstances?
There are some small-scale villa developments in places like Ostricioni and Calvi in the north-west of Corsica where groups travelling together would have a shared pool but separate accommodation. Would that appeal?

bossykate · 15/11/2007 14:29

yyy! shared pool but separate accom. is what i am looking for in the ideal world wherever we go. it is so nice for the children to meet little holiday friends! thanks

obv tis is who is doing the searching, organising and of course paying

invoking organiser's privilege will only create a sense of entitlement to whinge.

You really deserve this holiday bk
Can tell you all you need to knw about Calvi and environs and so can Hoxty who I think was at Ostricioni up the coast

With Maisons Bervily you don't even need a car unless you really want to live dangerously

Marina · 15/11/2007 15:10

and you will all love this mad little train full of happy holidaymakers, the journey is out of this world

bossykate · 15/11/2007 15:12

was loving maisons bervily until it seemed that the washing machines were shared!

but seriously - nonononono!

looks really, really lovely though. maybe i could get over shared w/m?

OP posts:
Blu · 15/11/2007 15:17

I think shared w/m is ok, esp in a country where things dry v quickly.

Present him with 3 options, all of which YOU really like (and all of which would be do-able without him, just in case), then say 'which one of these do you like' - and if none, say 'ok, give ME 3 options by next Tue'...

Marina · 15/11/2007 15:17

By the time you go, won't a washing machine be a useful standby rather than a holiday essential?
I'm not so obsessed with own washing machine these days so long as I can get at one if I need to
I think with under threes it is essential, mind
Maisons Bervily is not at the luxe end of the market in Calvi I would think. I picked them out because they have been on fussy old Corsican Places books since forever (like 11 years ago when we went) so I am guessing they remain popular from a value for money/pleasant welcome basis.
Browse their site, because they do lots of smarter properties too and maybe some of those are a couple of adjacent villas with shared pool
I think Hoxty and co were up in Lama, which is a sort of reclaimed deserted village and a community-inspired project. I gather it is gorgeous.
You have to drive down to the beach from there and I do mean down. We had enough abseiling in a squealing-tyred Twingo to promise ourselves we would never drive in Corsica again!

Marina · 15/11/2007 15:18

Blu speaketh pithy thenthe ath usual
I'd go for three different villas in Maisons Bervily if you really want a result

bossykate · 15/11/2007 15:19

lololol @ give me three options by next tuesday why do you think we are going to relate?

OP posts:
bossykate · 15/11/2007 15:22

haha, i don't need smart but do need a w/m! could just about manage w/o tumble dryer if climate warm but then more ironing needed.

it looks lovely but in general the description of facilities is very thin. i think i would need to email them with a detailed list.

thanks for this it looks great and deffo worth following up

OP posts:
Blu · 15/11/2007 15:27

Oh, yes, BK - I completely understand that there would be no 3 options by Tue...which automatically defaults back to your 3 choices but has given formal consultative opportunity.

DP and I have been known to conduct these sort of discussions by e mail.....which are then dredged up and used as the basis for reply, all documentation intact, should there be a Whinge and Grievance Tribunal further down the line.

Do not feel you are alone in this

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 15:29

I do so envy people whose DH's are co-operative about holidays.

crunchie · 15/11/2007 15:41

BK am I reading this correctly, you need a washing and poss a tumble drier on holiday, otherwise you will need to IRON!!!

ITS A HOLIDAY FFS!!!

Surely you will be wear shorts, t shirts, swimsuits, towels and perhaps one or two 'smarter' options. What do you pack that needs an IRON????

Marina · 15/11/2007 15:48

From the looks of it she may be ironing her dh's family jewels crunchie
Linen perhaps...?

Marina · 15/11/2007 15:49

Dino, there's compliance, and then there's "point me at Calais if you really have to" inertia

Bundle · 15/11/2007 15:50

hmmm ironing >

Marina · 15/11/2007 15:51

bundle, you are an amateur in the face of scummy's need to purchase her first ever iron aged 30 plus I remember having an attack of the (lavender scented) vapours at that revelation!
Marina whips out indespensible travel iron and stands supportively at bk's side...

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 15:54

I am very very tempted to take the DSs on my own next summer...

CodDickinson · 15/11/2007 15:59

CodDickinson · 15/11/2007 15:59

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 16:03

bossykate · 15/11/2007 16:43

women of england! my fellow mumsnetters! for yea though i am on holiday creases shall follow me not and lo! my raiment shall be smooth passing all understanding. for i will yield not to the serpent words of slatterns who would turn me aside from the path of righteousness, beside which the springs of lavender scented ironing water flow!
