Palma car hire

We've booked a cheapy holiday for near the end of the year, all covered in case the revival doesn't happen. I have never been, and we will be taking a 6 month old. She is our first born and I've never been away with a young child before so want to make it as relaxing as possible, hence getting a car. I've had various experiences with car hire, from airport collection (orlando) with a free upgrade to shuttle bus (bergamo) to losing my wallet including driving licence 2 days before leaving and having to cancel it (kos).

I would really like to get off the plane, (7pm landing), get through (the new slower) customs, go to the car hire desk, get the keys and go. But this is a cheap holiday, and I am getting quotes for that for £200+. That's hard to argue with my wife, when the cheaper shuttle bus companies are about £80-90, even if they are woeful reviews.

I am sure plenty of people have been through this, so I am hoping for some real life experiences. I have read reviews of companies like OK, but I know people tend to write reviews when things are bad so the skews ratings.
