Grand Canyon with small children

We are going to the Grand Canyon in a week and I am wondering how long we will actually want to spend there and what we can do when we have a 22 month old and a 3 year old? Does anyone know if we can go in a helicopter with them or not? What else is there to do? Also any hotel recommendations?
TIA

Hi, we went to the Grand Canyon this summer. Myself and DH had a great time, DDs (13, 10, and 7) thought it was ok, but had had enough after 2 days. We didnt stay in a hotel, cut a kind of chalet/lodge style. We didnt pay the extra for air conditioning either as it gets quite cool in the evening. We ate in the restaurants/cafes around the park - they were ok although not brilliant! We went in an aeroplane over the canyon, the youngest child there was probably 4. Again it was something that DH and I wanted to do and so DDs had to come too.

The scenery is breathe taking and the walks are lovely!

Thanks pinkbubble! Are the walks alright for toddlers, do you think?

Hello! We have great memories of our trip to Grand Canyon last October - we were in a campervan so can't help with accom tips. The whole area is really well organized for tourists - the Visitor Centre is v.helpful - with Junior Ranger packs for the kids - your 3yr old might enjoy looking for stuff on worksheet. There's an efficient free hop on/hop off bus going everywhere which is great for smalls. We did try one hike but ended up right on the edge - bit scary with 4 kids, although they found it really exciting. Not so good with a husband who is scared of heights and a stroppy 4 year old refusing to hold anyones hand!!!
We also did the flight in a plane - much cheaper than helicopter - they were happy to take all our kids ranging from 4 to 10. Check the website at www.airgrandcanyon.com
Do take lots of layers as it was pretty chilly when we were there.
Enjoy - it is amazing - photo's and postcards don't do it justice. The flight was a great way to see the enormity of it.

Thanks spudz, I will look into the flights!

How many days/ nights did you stay there?

Just a couple - seemed enough for us. Pottered around the first day getting our bearings, kids did the Ranger thing and we did the flight the next morning and scary hike(!) in the afternoon. At least its a quiet time of year to go - have a great time.
