Had anyone been to Okinawa?

Just wondering if anyone has been to Okinawa, Japan? I'm planning a trip to Japan next year (fingers crossed we can go!) and am wondering if I should include Okinawa or not.
Planned itinerary is as follows:

4 nights Tokyo sightseeing
2 nights Kyoto sightseeing
2 night Osaka Universal Studios
4 nights Okinawa beach and chill
3 nights Tokyo Disney

Does that sound good? It will be my husband and I and our daughter who will be 15 months old when we goSmile

I have been to Ishigaki-jima in the Okinawa islands. Stunningly beautiful, although we did “cheat” and stay at the Club Med so we could speak French. Outside Tokyo, the further south you get the less easy it is to converse without any Japanese.

I am a bit confused by your itinerary with a 15 month old in tow though. Sightseeing in Tokyo and Kyoto is a lot of temples and stuff. If your toddler is in a buggy then a lot of these places will be difficult to access and if they are like my kids at that age they will want to just run around which doesn’t really go hand in hand with paper walls in temples hundreds of years old. I personally can’t think of a worse place to sightsee with a toddler. Unless you are happy walking, checking out the lights at night, going for a more cultural tour than traditional sightseeing etc. I think a child needs to be at least school age if sightseeing is your main drive for this holiday.

The Disney park is pretty cool though. Most like the one in California but it’s all in Japanese. Queues are long though, particularly during Japanese holidays.

I worked in Tokyo for a few months and then went on holiday with the husband the following year there.

We did

5 nights Tokyo (you need it with jet lag)
3 nights Kyoto
2 nights Osaka - visited Nara for the day
2 nights Hiroshima
1 night Fukuoka
5 nights Okinawa
1 night Tokyo

All fabulous fun as two adults. Wouldn’t even consider it with a toddler.
