I seem to remember a butterfly enclosure too. That was nice but dh accidentally trod on one

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/10/2007 10:19

We love it! It is on the doorstep too so double bonus!
We went a year or so ago in the middle of summer with no air con in the car. You have to have the windows up in the monkeys, lions, wolves, tigers. Very, very hot!! lol

We did not get a single monkey on the car.

You are not supposed to drive fast in case you run any over...

Niecie · 05/10/2007 10:23

Get there early as there is loads to see.

Don't bother with the house with small children - we didn't have time anyway.

Make sure they go to the loo before starting the safari bit in the car - DS1 had to wee in a fruit shoot bottle in the lion enclosure. He wondered why he couldn't get out to go behind a bush.

Pets Corner - you are more likely to see the 'famous' keepers in there (from Animal Park).

We didn't see anybody's car get destroyed tbh. One ran over our car but I think the trick is not to stop in the monkey enclosure.

If you don't have a CD player in your car, take one for the commentary CD.

Boat trip was my favourite bit but the queue was horrendous.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/10/2007 10:28

Agree with that, if you dont stop the monkeys done get on the car.
The queue was moving forward then stopping etc but dh kept the car moving very slowly the whole way round.

We got the 'We survived the monkeys at Longleat' sticker! Anyone else? Dh has it in the back of the car, proudly displayed as the car was not damaged! lol

I love longleat and plan on going back next year with the kids. We have never had the car trashed by the monkeys. Boat trip is great and yes the gorrilas have sky but last time we went we were told that the remote controls had been taken off them and that their watching had been restricted as they were being antisocial. Agree you need to have plenty of time or be prepared to keep going back iyswim. Agree Lord of Bath does come across as a loon and is a bit of a letch, best avoided IMHO. Love the meercats, petting area etc.

I went last weekend - the safari park was OK, and there's loads of other stuff to do.

  • Don't go round the monkey enclosure a second time becuase they didn't trash the car the first time. Doh!

  • Joe's Mine was utterly enchanting if you are a bat fan like me, if you don't like bats it would be hell as the bats are free flying around you.

  • The otters are great - there are young cubs and they are very entertaining.

I know the OP is using Tesco vouchers but if anyone is thinking of going, I have 2 spare child passport tickets (won in comp, valid til 4th nov 2007, so fine for half term). I was going to freecycle them but if there's a Mumsnetter out there who could make use of them, CAT me & I'll pop them in the post to you.

Just found this thread, I don't suppose you still have those passport tickets do you? I've just been looking for things to do with the DC for half term and Longleat is about an hour or so from us.
