Considering Phu quoc - have a few days in Hanoi and then Hoi An .
Have heard it’s over developed and a building site.
Just wondered if anyone had an advice of places to stay on the island they are less touristy ?
Or should We avoid ?

Depends what you want to do. Chen Sea resort and spa is nice to flop and relax for a few days but wouldn’t recommend a Phu Quoc for culture/activities. Definitely don’t stay in Duong Dong.

We are currently in SE Asia and heading to Phu Quoc on Monday, staying in the north of the island at Fusion Resort which is miles from anywhere. We chose it purely for total relaxation as we knew we’d be exhausted as our itinerary was really full on. Currently in Ho Chi Minh and can’t wait to see the back of it, it’s our least favourite place so far. Looking forward to 10 nights of doing nothing much before we head to Hanoi.

I got back from Phu Quoc on Thursday. Was there 3 nights after 10 nights touring Vietnam. It’s beautiful, not much to do, but great for a relax. I stayed at the Ancarine Beach Hotel which I would recommend x100000. Small beach bungalows, private beach, amazingly cheap for drinks food and spa treatments, paddle boards kayaks and bikes to borrow.

@travellingInSEasia if you hate HCMC you really aren’t going to like Hanoi: it’s even worse/ have you been to Hoi An/An Long Bay?

We’ve been to Hanoi and loved it! HCMC was far too westernised for our tastes plus we were there on a weekend and it was frantic, much busier than Hanoi when we were there. We did do quite a though plus we went to the tunnels at Cu Chi.

We are heading back to Hanoi after Phu Quoc and will be going to Halong Bay. Currently loving the luxury of Fusion, we have two spa treatments included each per day if we wish. Got some plans while we are here including a motorbike day tour of the island and a visit to Pineapple Island via the cable car.

We’ve also been to Siem Reap for 5 nights which was incredible.

@Queenie72 we spend today driving around the south of Phu Quoc island (by jeep which was great fun) and the further south you go the more construction there is, especially near the cable car, an incredible amount to be honest. We’re happy we chose the north of the island, there is nothing going on around where we are. The downside for a lot of people might be the fact you can’t just walk out of the hotel and visit local restaurants but it works for us.

We are touring around the north of the island tomorrow. As mentioned above there is not a lot of culture here. Pineapple Island, where the cable car goes, could be anywhere in the world, 100% set up for tourists but they’ve done a good job.

Thanks for your help . Will look at the resorts you have recommended and will aim for the North of the island x
