On an overnight home, it’s £55 more from New York.. is it worth it?

Don't know exactly what you get for premium Economy from AA, but for only £55 I'd go for it if it's more likely that you'll be able to get some sleep.

We used aa premium economy to and from LA recently, would say it was worth it just for the massive seats and better legroom. Also the baggage allowance is much better. Service, food and IFE wasn’t much different to economy though

bit wider seat and a bit more room

I flew AA premium economy last week. It’s mostly brand new, seats are very comfy and we had the bulkhead with stacks of leg room (although we were close to the loo). The cabin is very small and AA get tetchy about people wandering up and down the plane (they actually announced they didn’t want anyone doing this except if they had small children) so you’ll be undisturbed.

However, on both our outbound and inbound legs economy was more than half empty and most people were doing the poor man’s business class and sleeping flat across 3-4 seats and obviously they’d paid less than us!

Great. thanks all. The other option was BA, but have had some bad experiences of their premium econ.

Here’s hoping my (low!) frequent flyer status will nab me a free upgradeGrin

Got the bulkhead seats so lots of legroom Crown Wink

I think you made the right decision, AA premium economy is loads better than BA. Based on my recent experiences you get about twice the amount of food and they aren’t stingy with the drinks either- weirdly I found getting water an issue on BA as they wouldn’t give out bottles and were pouring half a tiny cup at a time like it was rationed or something.

On the transatlantic Dreamliners AA have a very small joint First/Business cabin on transatlantic routes that often sells out. I have status with them and get domestic upgrades more often than not but never a whisper when flying long haul, even when I’ve offered to pay for it at the check in desk the response has always been that the cabin is full. So don’t hold out hope for that!

Are you with Oneworld for miles OP? Or are you collecting directly with AA!
