Best France B&B guides

We're going to travel around France a bit - we'd like to stay in small, characterful B&Bs.

What are the best acommodation guides to look at? (printed and online).

Thanks

Online I would look on the Gites de France website, which also lists Chambres d'Hotes. These are arranged by department and then classified by "epis" (ears of wheat) - a good one having probably three or four epis. There is a similar organisation called Clevacances. Otherwise I would try Alistair Sawday's Special Places though you would get more information from the book version than online.
French hotels can be very good and inexpensive - just returned from one where we stayed half board for two nights and our total bill for two people was £150! The hotel had a swimming pool and tennis court, simple ensuite accommodation and an excellent menu du terroir. We found it through Logis de France

Another vote for Gites de France.
