3.5 days in Nice in December

We are off to Nice in December for 3.5 days. We would ideally like to stay in the old town part, does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to stay and must see things?
We would like to see as many highlights as we can while it's quiet in winter!
We are traveling as 2 adults and 2 children 9&12.

There's a small Natural History Museum behind Place Garibaldi and a cave man museum above the port (in an actual prehistoric elephant hunting camp).
Confiserie Florian in the Port is a sweet shop with a free short guided tour. Child friendly tours can be given in English. The tour lasts less than 10 minutes, so it’s a quick stop while you're at the Port. We saw where the chocolate treats were made, learned about French candied fruits and tried a few treats.
L'Art en Movement is a mechanical toy museum. Most of it is free and worth exploring if the weather is foul.
At Monaco, there's the expensive but worth-it aquarium. Also, one of the most spectacular ice skating rinksin the worldis in Monaco, and it’s only6€. This is nothing like those miniature rinks for children that are epidemic in all the region’s ‘Christmas Villages’… withthisone you can reallyleg out and get some speed!
At Roller Station at the top of the Promenade des Anglais, you can rent skateboards and scooters so that you can walk while the dc cruise.
There’s a giant winter-only Ferris Wheel offPlace Massena,
There are small winter amusement parks in every town (Monaco, again, is top choice), including the giant indoor Luna Park set upinside the Palais des Expositions.

Thanks Rice, that's just the sort of thing I was looking for. Have you been up to castle hill? The views looks amazing.

Yes, it’s worth going up Castle Hill. The views really are superb, both west over the Promenade des Anglais and east over the Port. There’s a small café and a huge rope climbing frame.
