And are they a lot cheaper or is this an urban myth? EasyJet’s flights come out on Thursday for next summer. Just wondering whether it’s worth keeping an eye out for them or not

I don't think there is any particular pattern, it depends on the demand for that specific flight.

Not a summer flight, but using Google Flights I price tracked an easyJet flight for a popular date (Christmas) and destination from the day of release. The price went up slightly the day after the release day price (£79 to £89) 157 days ago. It then more or less stayed the same for months (occasional drops back to release day price) until it increased 23 days ago and then increased a few times since then. It's now £170, so around double. But in this case there would have been little or no advantage to booking on the day of release, you could have got the same or similar price for more than 4 months after release. However, it never dropped below the release day price, so you would not have saved any money by waiting and of course you would have the risk of it potentially going up at anytime.

So if you know when and where you want to go I would say it's worth just booking on release day and then you know you have the flight booked and paid and so obviously won't pay any more, so no stress.

If you are flexible about dates and destinations and price/budget is an issue then track several flight options using Google flights and be ready to book if/when there is a decent drop in price. (You will get an alert by email for any price changes, up or down and should get a push alert/ notification on your phone (android phones, signed into Google account only I think) for any significant price drops).

I booked easyJet flights for last summer when they came out the Sept before. Managed to get £30pp for Gatwick to Barcelona. We had done the same route the year before but not booked til Jan and it was more than double. So I would say it is worth it if you know you are going to go, and you know your dates
