Not sure if it will still be breakfast or lunchtime when we are on the A303. So does anyone know anywhere nice to eat and maybe have a run around? Thanks.

which end are you starting? M3 end, I presume?

the A303 is rather long....

you could come off at Mere at go to Stourhead Gardens. No need to pay to go in, you could just use the restaurant that's next to the car park. National Trust, so food is reasonable quality if a little expensive imo.

We always used to go off at Wincanton, and buy lunch at Safeway (just at the entrance to the town). Then you carry on in the direction of the town, get into the one way system and take the first left. It goes down to a little river, and there's a children's playground with enormous slide and a cemetery and a cricket field. It is only about 3 minutes off the A303 IIRC.

Thanks. Yes we are starting at the M3 end and hoping to not stop until we are in devon.

I spent hours on that hateful road on Saturday, gggrrr
My tip would be to dive into Popham Services, which now has a M & S To Go shop, buy some fresh goodies there, and crawl along to Stonehenge, where you can park for free if you are an NT or EH member. Our two love legging it round the tumuli in the field beyond the overflow carpark.
We would do Stourhead if we had ever got there before teatime
I don't care how lovely Devon is, I am NEVER going on the A303 again. I really hope you have a better experience than we did hickory

Was going to suggest Stourhead lalaa - there is also a pub with lovely food which isn't NT and you can get to without being a member of the NT.
