How smart is "dress to impress"? I do much prefer the old "black tie" requirement, makes life easier

People wore suits and dresses or just didnt bother

Just been on one (it was fab!). On the dress to impress night there were some hilariously over-dressed people, quite a few smart people, and then the majority (including us) who didn't bother. We wore smartish clothes on nights when we went to the served restaurants and casual to the buffet one, regardless of what day it was. I think that's what almost everyone did tbh.

Been on a few but the reason I chose them is that I dislike being told what to wear so avoided the optional formal nights.
