What do you like to make to eat when staying somewhere hot?

I'm looking for super easy ideas for days that we aren't eating out. No BBQs allowed. Ive gone blank!

I buy lovely giant prawns in supermarket and have with salad. Also do things like pizza, beans on toast, scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Bread and dips, tapas style. Depends where I can shop. Usually lots of nice seafood bits.

giant prawns sound nice :) maybe I just need to buy lots of ready salad things.

We mostly live off bread, cheese, meat, salad when self catering abroad.

bebeboeuf · 08/08/2019 21:05

Also just happily live off cold cuts, cheese and salad when abroad.

It’s far better quality at home too so always feels like a treat

Jamhandprints · 08/08/2019 21:08

No cooking facilities? Tbh I'd be happy with bread, olives and cheese every day. But depending where you are they will have their own local treats; tortilla de patata and empanadas in Spain for example.

Redwinestillfine · 08/08/2019 21:11

Roast chicken, grilled meats / fish, salad and bread for main meal, cold cuts cheese salad and bread otherwise. Don't feel like eating anything else. I eat out for anything more complicated!

Echo the bread/cheese/pate salad combo. Always hoovered up.

Second is tuna/pasta salad with more bread to mop it up.

Third is rotisserie chicken available most places (unless you are vegetarian). Just add bread, or chips.

No need to be religious about healthy foods on hols either. Just go for easy.

bread cheese, cold cuts, olives and salad sounds ideal. Thank you. Flowers

If they have a rotisserie i buy chicken, then salad. Cooked shellfish. Simple meals of bread and cheese, quiche etc

PenguinsRabbits · 16/08/2019 18:44

If its hot we tend to have salads - thing like

Mozzarella, parma ham and melon, sometimes with rocket and pine nuts and peach instead of melon.
Smoked salmon, lettuce, cheese, new potatoes, carrot/cabbage
Tuna, egg, cheese, prawns, lettuce.

Always worth trying local specialities too and local bakers if a nice one.

SJane48S · 17/08/2019 07:34

Good bread, cheese, tomatoes, ham and pesto. Wine, lots of!

Rua13 · 17/08/2019 16:23

Melon and cheese are good together.

TapasForTwo · 17/08/2019 20:44

Pretty much what everyone else has said - fresh bread, deli foods, salad etc. In Sicily we also tried local delicacies like arancini and caponata as well as local meats and cheeses. Then there are the tomatoes - oh the tomatoes.

Where are you going Kitten?
