Booking a holiday for summer 2008 how does the payment usually work?

Sorry for my ignorance but we haven't been abroad for years. I know you have to pay a deposit now and then do you pay quarterly amounts off or can you split it monthly or what? If a holiday is around £1700 for example does anyone know roughly what payments are expected throughout the year?

Normally you pay a deposit then the balance so many weeks before departure (10 rings a bell) . If you only pay a low cost deposit you may have to make an interim payment to top it up at some point.
