Have you flown to JFK with Thomas Cook ?

I’m really impatient and in haste I booked a flight from Manchester to JFK with Thomas Cook. I’m regretting it slightly and would love to hear your experience of flying to jfk with them. I’ve no idea if I should pay £160 to upgrade to premium economy for the flight out as I’d love to sleep in order to pack in as much as I can when I get there. Or should I pay £150 for a sleeper bed? Or just pay for a seat, and if so which one. Any advice would be appreciated.

I flew to Vegas with TC last year, we upgraded on the way home as it was a good price.

TBH I wouldn't do it again, the leg room is pretty good anyway (I'm 6' and DH is 6'3" and we were both fine in the economy seats) and for the premium economy we got to board first (I actually prefer to stay at the gate as long as poss if I know I'm gonna be sat down for the next 10 hours!), got a glass of prosecco when we got on and then the drinks were free during the flight. As it was a night flight I didn't take advantage of this like I would if it had been a day flight.
You also don't have to pay for the extra entertainment channels, but it is only £5 anyway.

All in all I don't think it was worth it, as I'm happy with the normal TC service. Now if I ever got the chance to go business class on BA/Virgin/Emirates etc, that is most defo on my bucket list!

I do regularly as it is frequently the cheapest. It is fine because it is a short flight anyway, but then I could sleep anywhere. I am not sure I would want to go on a long haul flight with them as I do like a bit of luxury.

I flew with TC to JKF this january, plane was ok but old and airtanker, food was AMAZING on the way out, but on the way back, i've never had something so vile in my life !! very basic films, pay £7 each way to upgrade, we didn't bother, drinks and snacks were expensive also, so glad we took our own! I would say be cautious, we're unsure if it was the weather or the plane (we personally and doctors said plane) but the circulation was bad, a lot of people were unwell and my mum ended up with pneumonia, so i would recommend hand wash in your bag! I personally wouldn't fly with them again, but that's just my opinion, JKF is actually small (well the terminal), straight through the customs gate and there's your bags and the exit x

@tillythedog If the OP's flight has sleeper seats it will be one of the new A330 planes.

I've not flown on this route but airlines on this route are all very similar (in economy). I'd pay for a sleeper seat but purely for the reason I don't like sitting next to people!

I flew this route a year ago in economy, and it was absolutely fine. We had a 2.5 hour queue in immigration at JFK though, which was painful!

I flew with Thomas Cook last year to JFK. Great flight, quick and easy.

chzarind · 16/07/2019 08:58

Thomas Cook don't have any new A330's. The youngest A330 in the Manchester based fleet is 10.

I’ve no idea if I should pay £160 to upgrade to premium economy for the flight out as I’d love to sleep in order to pack in as much as I can when I get there. Or should I pay £150 for a sleeper bed?

If you are willing to pay that much extra go for premium economy, don't waste it on a sleeper bed!

AuntieMarys · 16/07/2019 09:05

Yes flown twice premium economy.
I don't travel well on planes as I have sciatica and 7 hours is the longest flight I could do. But TC were fine.

WhatHaveIFound · 16/07/2019 14:57

We flew this route last. Flew out economy and back premium economy as had to work on the day i got back. It was fine both ways but to be fair i was so exhausted after a few days in New York that i could have slept standing up!
