Tell me about Bulgaria please!

No idea except the prices look good.

We like:
not so touristy ( so dislike the main Spanish costas for instance)
Old town charm
Being able to walk from hotel to local restaurants
Local charm and culture (rather than Brits abroad).

A quick look at the Internet, Sunny Beach wouldn't appeal.

Anyone any other Bulgarian ideas? (Or is this a really stupid idea altogether!)

One of the quieter Greek Islands. Bukgarias cheap but generally down market. That will change I the future I'm sure.

Sozopol is stunning. Get a flight to Bourgas and then it's 40 mins by cab / bus to Sozopol. Not rowdy. Different crowd completely to Sunny beach. Cheap and friendly people. Google it. Old town is fab and ancient. There's only one hotel with a pool in the old town which is where we stay (DS loved a pool) called Vili Sozopol. It overlooks the cliffs and the beach.
Nessebar also gorgeous and ancient and pretty - very close to Sunny Beach so if you wanted to go for a day for any of the activities you could but it's does have everything there. Recommend a day trip to Bourgas as well whilst there.

We stayed in the Hotel Riu Helios Paradise which was lovely. Walkable to Sunny Beach for things to do, but quiet and peaceful, day trips to Nessebar. Sea was lovely and warm too.

Only thing is, they were building a sister hotel next door so if that is open, it could be busier. But would definitely recommend the hotel and area.

Thanks! Sounds more positive than I thought.

I've looked at a newly opened hotel and thought it was great, but it is AL and no way to walk to the nearest town, looks like quite a main road behind. I will look at the other hotels suggested here.
