USA holiday inspiration

DH and I are torn on where to go for our next holiday last two weeks of August.

We are considering driving Route 66 as we love to drive out there and adore the desert/ long roads/ diners, that kind of thing. We've been to Southern California a few times now so don't feel the need to explore there really.

Or, we are thinking about doing a week in Walt Disney World, Florida with my sister and her niece (who we love dearly) and a week elsewhere. We've been to Disney before and I am a mad Disney fan. We can't think of anywhere else we want to go so was looking for any hidden gems for inspiration.

Again we are happy to drive or fly if it's only a couple of hours. We like to do list of sight seeing so beaches are a no no really, been to Miami and wasn't a fan really. We've been to New York a few times, most recently last month so really don't want to go there again.

Seattle, is a great place. Then you could drive up the Pacific coast to Vancouver. There’s lots of little seaside places along the way an Vancouver is amazing.

Asheville, North Carolina is simply amazing. The Biltmore is breathtaking. You can then drive the Blue Ridge Parkway through the mountains and even pop over to Tennessee. It's gorgeous. It would be a very quick flight from Orlando to Asheville.

Colorado is lovely. Fly in to Denver, drive to mountains, Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Brook.
Estes Park is nice. Even in summer the mountains are gorgeous. The rockies run through Colorado too.

We did a road trip around New England last summer. We had a great time. Favourite place was staying in a cabin near Franconia, New Hampshire. It rained most of the time we were staying there but it was really good to chill for a bit in peace.

Route 66 will be quite hot in August. I lived in Oklahoma for a while and you couldn’t spend much time walking around in August as it was unbearably hot.

You could start in washington DC and drive down the east coast to Florida. Plenty to see history wise and lovely little towns eg Savannah, Charleston etc.

Or a similar drive from New Orleans along the gulf coast.

I second the blue Ridge Parkway. I just remember the amazing views, the feeling of freedom and in particular visiting Chimney Rock State Park which is where they filmed The Last of the Mohicans. Surreal.
