Brussels advice and hotel suggestions

DP has a significant birthday coming up and I've booked the Eurostar to Brussels. I've not been for years and have no idea which areas to look for a hotel in.

It's just us, no kids, and we'd like something accessible to the sights on foot or easy public transport and with cosy bars, restaurants and hopefully some interesting independent shops nearby.

Any pointers for good areas or particular boutique hotels would be great!

Pillows hotel place rouppe seems to fit your requirements. If you check their own website there's various packages. It's about a 20 minute walk from Grande Place.

It's next door to comme chez soi. It's a Michelin 2 star restaurant if you want a meal to remember. Evening meals are really expensive obviously but lunch menu is 65 euro, still expensive but doable

Ixelles is a popular area, for good reason. It’s a diverse neighbourhood with a good mix of shops and a great food and nightlife scene.
Sablon is quaint with cobbled streets and medieval architecture. It’s has lots of antique shops, a large weekend market and many chocolate shops.

I am staying in the Hubert not far from the Grande Place. Looked nice, and nice and central. It was a toss up between that and a Novotel.

Have you already stayed in the Hubert Canterbury? If so, how did you find it? Thanks!

No, I haven't. Going in August.
I looked at various chain hotels but the ones equally as central were loads more expensive.
