Camping near Barcelona

Last year we stayed in a chalet at Camping Fabulous just outside Rome and had a fab time (me, 22 yo DS and 6 yo DD) It was the perfect mix of lazy time around the pool and games with DD and a bit of city sightseeing for the grown ups.

This year DS can’t come so it’ll just be me and 6 yo DD and I was thinking of booking something similar near Barcelona as I’ve heard it’s quite good for kids.

We can fly to any of the airports in Barcelona area with easyJet/Ryanair/jet2 from our local airport and won’t have a car so I’m looking for somewhere with good public transport links. Have seen a couple of sites in Sitges which look although they might fit the bill, does anyone have any experience or any suggestions of other areas? Cambrils looks nice but more expensive

Also any advice as to the best time to go. Last year we did Rome in July and it was very hot in the city so thinking Barcelona might be the same and wondering if May half term might be a better bet?

Thanks

If you’ve landed here looking for inspiration, we've got a roundup of the best Eurocamp sites in Spain, as recommended by Mumsnetters featuring Vilanova Park and Park Playa Bara, both within easy reach of Barcelona.

In case anyone is thinking about doing something similar, there are some gear deals on the Eurocamp website. We’ve booked a week here at half term for £123!! Even with flights it’s under £500

We have stayed twice at Playa Bara near Tarragona which is south of Barcelona. The campsite is great, lovely pools and a five minute walk to the beach.

Would definitely recommend Sanguli in Salou which is about an hour south of Barcelona. You can book direct or with various companies such as Eurocamp.

We have also stayed Tamarit Park which is slightly closer to Barcelona. However there wasn't much there off-site within walking distance - unless along the beach, which was fine when going OUT for dinner - less so on the way back. Still completely do-able though.

Can't help re campsites but we did Barcelona in May half term a few years ago and although the weather was 'pleasant' most of the time, we did have some torrential rain and it was cool at night. If you are a fair weather camper it may not be the right time to go!

It's a bit further away but look at Playa Montroig campsite, it's very close to Cambrils. Great campsite with lots of facilities and a glorious beach.

You can visit Barcelona for the day (I think there is a train from Cambrils or you can drive). Tarragona, Reus and Cambrils are all lovely as well.
