Sunbathing Turkey

hi everyone, what's the situation with going topless in turkey? We've been there before but don't remember how big a deal it was/wasn't, it was back in 2005 so a while ago. Travel site advice is all a bit vague so does anyone go regularly and know what's what?

I'm not sure why you're disappointed? It's a Muslim country.

Presumably you aren't going within the next month? If so, then it's a definite no-no, being Ramadan.

Wouldn't you always put your top back on to get in the pool or go to the bar?!

I’m just surprised it’s even an issue to be honest. Especially on the beach or round the pool in the complex itself. For me it’s part and parcel of going away being able to get a tan without strap marks etc. Everywhere is different though, I get that. That’s why I asked in the first place, it’s ages since I was there.

It's a Muslim country, so of course it's not going to be acceptable.
If you feel that it's important part of your holiday, go to somewhere like Fuerteventura where most hotels have nudist sections and nudity is on all beaches.

I was in Altinkum 2017. Women topless is pool area NO one said a thing. Can't remember seeing anyone on the beach
And last year Marmaris. And there was topless women on there they were there all week no-one seemed to mind.
The beach was attached to our hotel and there was certainly no-one gossiping or making disapproving noises that I remember.
Just be discreet. Enjoy your holiday

I've been to turkey 4 times and have never seen it done or noticed it done casually

That's in Marmaris, hisaronu and olu Deniz

It's a Muslim country if getting your boobs out is such a priority why not go somewhere else?

It’s not a priority. Anyway, it sounds like it depends on the exact location / resort and that’s why people have had different experiences.

It's not a Muslim country, its officially secular (unlike the UK). Having said that, the current political set up has gone far more Muslim which some Turkish people like and some don't. I have always loved Turkey and the people but its going the wrong way imho if they want to keep going as a holiday destination for secular Europeans. But they may have no interest in that and it's their choice to make.

I found most people generally respectful and haven't noticed anyone topless so they were either non existent or very discreet.

That’s actually quite interesting and yeah, it isn’t going to do the tourist area much good going in that direction, which is a shame.

Never seen topless sunbathing in Turkey. Would be very frowned upon I think.

Rarely see women sunbathe topless these days. It’s probably considered a bit tacky?

I don’t get the big deal to be honest. As others said if tan lines really that important to you holiday in a country where topless bathing is widely known as acceptable.

We’ve holidayed in Turkey 4/5 times in the last couple of years, bodrum, marmaris and Alanya and not seen a single woman topless poolside or on the beach. Didn’t see anyone topless in Ibiza, zante, Tenerife either. I honestly thought it was something not done anymore.

God, where do you go ? I mean I'd maybe think twice a bit if literally no one else was but apart from Turkey last time that's never happened. Anyway each to their own but for me, it's a bonus of going away for a week and getting a nice tan and it wouldn't have stopped me booking if I'd thought of it beforehand.

I haven't seen topless sunbathing in recent years either. TBH tan lines don't bother me. Both of my bikinis have halter necks that can be undone so I can wear them bandeau style. Having white boobs isn't an issue as only OH sees them anyway, and he couldn't care less.
